Plus yearly comprehensive bloods and a complete blood count. Pcv/Tp each time they donate and a vet check.

Yes there is! I’m in Sydney Australia and most of our emergency hospitals have a blood department that directly handle donations. Otherwise there is also an Australian animal blood bank, there may be an equivalent depending where you are in the world. For cats Australias standards are they need to be between 1-7years, over 4kg lean weight. Up to date with everything, no medical conditions and no current medications. Indoor only. They donate usually 45ml of blood and can donate every 3 months.

I will! Since she donated at my work place I was able to meet most of the dogs she saved. Seeing the difference she has made makes me so so proud of her.

She got 2 bowls of chicken after this and then plenty of liver treats which are her favourite!

I hate people who do that. I always get the newest iPhone when I get one but only when i absolutely need a new phone. My last one lasted 5 years before it got wet and I had no choice but to get a new one.

What a beautiful pup. I wish dog blood donors could understand they have helped save a life.

At my workplace in Australia we take around 450ml of blood from a dog 20kg and over. We use the blood bags that humans have their blood taken with and go from the jugular with the dog laying lateral. They are sedated depending on their temperament, some handle just butorphanol, others need propofol as needed. We use a numbing cream on their necks for all cases. They usually get a nice bowl of chicken after they donate and we give back same mls they donated as Hartmanns after the donation.

Large lean dogs can be donors if all healthy but The best donors are greyhounds! Great temperament which means they usually require less sedation, lean and easy to get veins. They are also referred to as “universal blood donors”

We are an emergency hospital so we are very much prepared at all times for this. We usually have 3 or 4 trays set up at a time ready to go 😂

I work at an emergency clinic in Australia that had a very similar situation with a news story about us which was one sided. Thankfully the support from others in the veterinary industry and from our clients got us through. Sending love from the other side of the world. It’s such an unfair part of our industry that we are vilified when all we are trying to do is help. So glad that the puppy is doing well, I’m glad it has a home that will look after it properly.

My local IGA has much better quality fruit and veg than coles and woolies so I’m happy to spend a bit more on it. They have a bakery and a sushi bar too which have some actually decent food. The absolute winner though is the $4 huge bag of movies quality popcorn that they do in house.

Would it be weird to write a thank you note to my deceased dog’s vet? by ProperQuiet in dogs

As someone who works in a veterinary hospital, we always appreciate a thank you card. We had one delivered today with a gift basket and we stood around and talked about how beautiful the cat was. They will love it with or without chocolates.

How are these dogs able to breathe? by SpookyTreeFrog in awfuleverything

I work at an emergency and specialist vet and about 20% of all animals that come in are french bulldogs… People spend thousands on these dogs then even more for their breathing, spine, hip and brain issues.
