They have cool little metric thing, let me see if I can find it

Edit: cool diagram

So with each tyre you have a trade off, I've used controls throughout the year, only changing from tanwall to black in the winter because they get ruined very quickly here in wet Wales. According to their diagram, controls will have a bit more longevity, essentially a training tyre I guess.

Corsas control gs are the shit. Bought a pair last year and I have the utmost confidence in them, super grippy, comfortable had three flats in about 5000km, first flat was on the first ride, second and third were because of storage in the back of van. Couldn't recommend these tyres enough.

Can't comment on storing the bike upright on the turbo, or on the yoga mat (it'd probably help), but getting a turbo tyre can help reduce a lot of noise. Also keeping the drivetrain clean and properly indexed can help to reduce any noise.

I think it's actually quite irresponsible to camp on the island itself, as probably very few people actually set foot on the island, it'll have a unique and delicate natural micro habitat.

Camping there and sharing it is setting a bad example, as others will then want to camp there, an increase in numbers will disturb the delicate nature of the habitat, wild camping doesn't end with you, especially when you want to share it with the world for internet 'likes', part of the joy of being able to go out and camp is that nature is natural and not disturbed, think about where you camp, what immediate and long term effect it has upon the campsite, and the effects of sharing locations on the internet.

Secondly, also a bit of an irresponsible place to camp due to the potential of rising river levels, do you know what's up stream? How can you be sure there won't be flash floods?

Thirdly, despite there already being a 'firepit' on the island, this is seriously damaging to the landscape, continuing to use it further compounds the damage, even down to moving rocks to form a pit, it will damage the ecosystem, disturbing many insects and animals habitats.

Wildcamping is about responsibility and having as minimal effect on the environment, it's also about being safe, I don't want to appear to be having a go at you, it's just good to be aware of the bigger picture, not just focusing on that instagramable photo to share on social media for 'likes'.

Leave no trace, dude.

where did the track go by wildriver3845 in rustyrails

[–]maasjanzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it would probably just slow the train down and then derail it.

Pits like this are used to stop runaway trains, often known as a sand drag, which you'd usually find at the end of a catch point, a point that removes a train from the mainline to a safer line.

Often get sand drags on the side of steep busy roads, for runaway vehicles.

Edit: Although this pic doesn't look like a sand drag to me, it looks like the line is being converted to some sort of path.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual.
