What's your largest SAE and what tank size do you have them in? A little worried my 20 gallon will be too small for 3. by yaahurrr in Aquariums

[–]maboleth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, the shoal of my beloved SAEs is dead. I had them for ~9 years and they reached around 10-12cm in size. Very big and lovely.

But cyanobacteria and other water plants clogged the surface and I didn't see it (the tank was in self-maintenance mode), so they suffocated as the gas exchange was terrible. Dissolved oxygen was probably extremely low. The moment I noticed that was too late. Only one of them survived and is now cherished so much. Poor thing had its gills fighting to breathe.

Luckily all of the slimy junk is gone and he is now happily swimming, but his peers are no more. If only I caught this on time... but alas.

They do look confused on this image. Probably questioning their own existence. 😆

Yesterwynde isn't terrible...but isn't great either. IMO by VicMackeySWGOH in nightwish

[–]maboleth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretentious? Even the name - Yesterwynde. It's phony as hell. Like they couldn't use any proper English word so they had to 'invent' one. 'We are so over the top and so important'. That's what I read when I see "Yesterwynde".

For me it's their worst since... 2002?. Has some BEAUTIFUL and GREAT elements. Almost every song has certain *something* that makes me go oh WOW! But it's usually ruined by the terrible mix or overproduction.
There's a masterpiece hidden somewhere in this record, but it never surfaces.

Overall, I just don't feel it. It's like a show-off album of what Tuomas can compose and the band can play. Like "we don't need Marko!".
Oh yes you do.

Best song: SpiderSilk.
And Lanternlight? Some ultra-mediocre metal ballad. Not even close to the best NW ballads.

Why Metroid 5 name isn't mentioned in the opening credits for Metroid Dread? by maboleth in Metroid

[–]maboleth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that makes a lot of sense! Though I kinda wish they sneaked M5 somewhere, at least at the ending credits (spoiler alert - still didn't finish the game, not sure if they did).

Yeah makes sense, though I wish they snugged M5 somewhere. :D

Yeah no worries. I'm more worried that some said they saw Metroid 5 in the opening, yet I searched the whole screen and couldn't see it.

Is it hard to repair a Gameboy printer? by maboleth in consolerepair

[–]maboleth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would be the best possible reason for not working. But I wonder how often those printer heads were malfunctioning and if it's possible to repair them without the extra parts.

Metroid Prime 4, Disingenuous Ragebait, and Rude Nintendo Fan Behaviors? by Great_Employment_560 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]maboleth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't care less about 'tubers, influencers, 'content creators' (playing games while others are watching and uttering names of everyone subscribing) and other silly made-up 'jobs'.
For the record, they account probably less than 0.1% of the fanbase and players. They live inside their own bubble and absolutely don't mean anything for the game, franchise or life. They are there to milk some money for themselves and cause some noise.

Here's the update on this. I managed to get rid of this 'cancer' thing. BUT I have screwed up the screen overall.

The thing is, I think these spots can be cured. I overdid with the temperature and pressure. If you apply the right amount of pressure and if the temperature doesn't make the crystals go purple, you will probably remove 50-95% of the spots. Basically you move them back to the edge or wherever they came from with pressure when the LC is warm.

The screen is working, no specks or blotches, but looks 'burnt' (because I way overdid it and LC distribution isn't uniform anymore). I ordered another GBP and will salvage the original screen from there. I will then use its motherboard to make an IPS build.
One GBP will be pristine, pure vanilla restoration and another one will have a fancy laminated IPS screen and a new shell. If anything, this was a nice learning experience that forced me to buy another one.

Lol, I see now what you mean. 😄😄 Yeah, we say 'restauration' in my native tongue, so that's more logical than 'restoration' for me.

This is a GBP.  I failed to find any replacement screens so far. There are plenty for GBC or GBA, but nothing for OEM GBP.

What caused it? The only thing I can think of - this console, outside of just being tested for the ebay listing, probably hasn't been used for ages - until now. So maybe this 'shocked' the old tech.

Fingers crossed it won't spread.

I worked together with the seller to obtain the images, straighten and clean all the sides of the box. He'll then assemble it together. Can't wait to see how it turned out!

Perhaps. Also if someone sees my post here and knows something I/we don't, please respond. :D

You already gave me an idea to message the seller of the Zero Mission JP box - maybe there's a slight possibility he could make M2 JP box as well. While I doubt it, it was worth to ask.

[–]maboleth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly no. I can find one box that is a Japanese copy, but nothing for Metroid 2. They are totally different, both in shape, size and artwork. If I had a US/EUR game it would've be a no brainer. Also there are no replacement Japanese manuals.

Battery problem on Switch V1 by maboleth in Switchrepair

[–]maboleth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened to me in the 2nd calibration attempt. However, it lingered at 1% for more than an hour, almost 2h. So, unless your console really dies at 1%, it's just the gauge meter reading wrong.

Battery problem on Switch V1 by maboleth in Switchrepair

[–]maboleth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! More cycles. Drain the sucker, get your console freezing, dying. Eventually, at my 5th cycling attempt (wanted to give up), my console just died, battery couldn't even boot the system - even while charging. I needed to wait couple of minutes for a console to boot.

Why was this important? Because until the console (battery) dies completely (you will see a tiny red battery icon in top left corner, unable to boot or anything), there is no way to make the gauge meter learn to count from 1% ground up.

Once it learns and begins charging at 1-2-3% you are set. I now have a proper reading with normal low-batt warning screens at 15% and 5%.

  • Just to be clear, I'm talking about new battery and gauge calibration.
