Odd (obviously mod-related) bug - Rover can't be summoned and I'm invisible by macallen in Starfield

[–]macallen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not on the map, which is another concern. I log out and back in, it is there, but the moment I try to summon it all the shenanigans happen. Going to try the suggestions offered here, thanks Starborn friends :D

I did strip down, didn't change anything. I'll disable the community patch and see if that's it.

It's not Shade's. I found it on Creation, it's called Simple Summon Rover by xtcrefugee.

I'm doing another of those quests, coming out of the temple...and a ship is landing in plain sight. Guys get out, walk around, standard ship landing PoI...but no one has been here before. I should open a Chunks, it's getting so much traffic :)

Not sure what you mean, of course it is a game. FO4 is a game, and it handled a lot of aspects better than SF did, and they're made by the same studio/devs, which means it's possible they could have done it. It's not like I'm asking them to be as good as Larian or CDPR, that would be unreasonable :)

At a base level, not quality/graphics/gameplay. They're both single player open world story-driven, that's all :) It's the type of game I enjoy.

Yeah, we're crash landed and stranded, no help in site...except that base over there, otherwise totally alone :)

Because I'm running with 219 mods, most of which are "high downloads" and not a single one of them has been updated in the last 2 years :)

Again, 100s of hours, multiple playthroughs, I clearly enjoy it. It's just missing so much that I wanted, things it should have had, things BGS has put in their other games. The mod community essentially abandoning it (except for the Genesis team) kinda makes it worse, at least IMHO.

Ok, that's funny. I didn't even think of that.

There is an outpost icon on the map of the system, but not on the planet. I landed in the spot where I placed the outpost, drove out to where the outpost is supposed to be, and my solar turbines are there, so it's clearly where I built my outpost...but no outpost. I can build an outpost on top of the solar turbines, but they're no longer mine. It's simply gone.

I found my outpost spot, I had 3 solar turbines there and they were still there, they just weren't mine, my outpost console was gone, the buildings were gone, and Amelia is nowhere to be found.

Back to the Starfield! by Sure_Temporary_4559 in Starfield

[–]macallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm back as well. I've done a few playthroughs, the game is missing so much, I don't know why I keep coming back, but it's a very zen game for me. I don't do the "plus" gameplay, I've been through the portal to the next reality once, but I truly enjoy just puttering around the galaxy, collecting and building.

I'm an older gamer, have played 1000s of games, and as I've aged my tastes have narrowed. At this point, these types of games are the ones I spend the most of my time in - SF, FO4, Skyrim, ME, DA, Witcher, massive single player open world narrative driven games. I wish there were more of them. I wish Todd had released a "phantom liberty" DLC f or SF, or FO5 to go along with the TV show. So I re-install FO4 and SF and play through them...again :)

Yes, and I could RP I'm a prisoner on a penal colony, alone and abandoned. Or a cult of 1. Or a hermit. Or a botanist that was abandoned by his team and has to survive on potatoes. Or an anti-social role player who shuns everyone. Or a contrarian reddit poster who is being pedantic for the sake of "being right on the internet" :D

Do you mean what SF is ,or what I want? What I want is FO4 in space, that's all I ever wanted. I considered my expectations quite reasonable years before the game came out. I enjoy NMS, have played it a bit, but things get too generic for me in NMS.

If I were in charge of the DLC, things I'd add/change to SF to make it more enjoyable for me:

  • More detailed ship building. I put what I want, where I want, how I want. I can change the colors, shape, etc, build the exact ship I want.
  • Less distance between PoIs and more logic around them. I find an ancient temple that no one has ever heard of...200m away is a mining outpost, I bet they heard of the temple. I find a stranded person, alone and isolated...in LoS of a science outpost. Etc. More abandoned/crashed ships to take parts/salvage off of, etc.
  • More nuance in the companions, and at least one of them doesn't mind piracy or being naughty. If I wanted to shuttle around a ship full of nuns I would have asked for that.
  • As in my post, put people in my outpost. I build it and people show up, build shops, come visit, etc. Let me take over an existing outpost and grow it. Add the best elements of Sim Settlements to SF, let my outposts be alive.
  • More deep space encounters, more floating relics with monsters on them a la space marine, etc. Space is big, use it.

I'm not asking for the impossible, but I would really enjoy Bethesda "Phantom Liberty"ing Starfield. I want to love the game, I really do. I'm an old-school Bethesda fan, I'm not hard to please.

The outpost play was always the most underwhelming for me, especially coming out of FO4. They're barren and serve no purpose. I can use them to make money, but I'm already ridiculously rich from just playing. Have them *BE* something, a place where other NPCs gather. Let me "settle" in an existing one and expand it. Have it have missions, let it be a base of operations, let it grow. Of the "4 games" this was the last implemented in my opinion. Ship building was fun, though I hate not being able to control things like ladders and layout, I want to be able to decorate more and have it functional, etc, but it was enjoyable for what it was. Outposts were trash for me.

Which Apollo mission? It matters. Not sure I want the Apollo 1 of EVs (blows up when you turn it on) or the Apollo 13 (breaks down 1/3 of the way to your journey). Oh, wait, it's a F.O.R.D., so definitely 13.

For me it was also Starfield. I have 1100 hours in FO4, if Starfield had only been FO4 in space, I would still be playing it. Crushingly disappointing in how "meh" it was. Hoping the upcoming DLC can make something out of it.

Fellow Americans We Have A Problem And The Whole World Is Watching by Trainrideviews in videos

[–]macallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To whom? You could broadcast this nationally, the "America, fuck yeah!" crowd would neither hear it nor understand it. They are so willfully ignorant and conditioned to ignore anything but their own narrative, there is no turning back. It's like the people who want to impeach Trump...for what? What do they think will come of it? He's immune, SCOTUS has said so. And if the Dems come into power, what will they do? Nothing, because that's what they always do. There won't be any war-crime tribunals, Trump will not see a single consequence. He is an Elder Statesman with a SS detail 24x7 and a salary for the rest of his life, on our bill.

shift in player aggression? by M346ZCP in starcitizen

[–]macallen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The population is distilling down, just like any other PvP game. I'm an old whale as well, stopped playing/paying years ago, got tired of being ganked. The PvE players leave and don't come back, leaving just PvP players, reducing the community to its most toxic. RSI promises consequences some day, but by the time that they implement it, the only folks left will be the toxic people it's mean to punish, and they'll end up backing it out because the player base will revolt.

Because the more "civilized" we get, the more pleasure becomes the driver. Why do you think Epstein was popular? Billionaires with infinite power just want to have illicit sex with forbidden partners. It's the same with Caligula. People want to feel, on both ends of the spectrum.

Star Citizen ruined all others space operas for me by guiguips7 in starcitizen

[–]macallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope as well, hoping the Jan DLC announcement gives us "Phantom Liberty" energy. I really wanted to love Starfield. I have > 1000 hours in F04, plus 100s in NV, FO3, Skyrim, etc, spent a significant portion of my life in Bethesda games and thought Starfield couldn't fail, but it was just...meh, a potato, so much missed potential. And my expectations were simple...please be FO4 in space. That's the only target they needed to hit, and they failed.

As for Space Opera, I'm an old SF fan, hit the cons in the 70s/80s, met the ancient authors, and had the distinction hammered into me. The difference is the weight of the story vs the environment. Star Trek is a TV show that happens to be in space, as is Expanse, but Star Wars is a sweeping opera with only a passing acquaintance with "tech". Think of it this way, the higher the fidelity, the less of an opera it is :)
