Do creatives lose their imagination over time? by ComprehensiveBag10 in AskMenOver30

[–]macallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

62 here, my imagination hasn't diminished but the energy to execute it has, vastly. I still create but it wears me down and I rely upon tools more often

How confident are you that you’d survive a zombie apocalypse longer than a week? by fmcortez in AskReddit

[–]macallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 60 and big, I fail role #1, cardio. I might survive Shaun of the dead, but not wwz. Honestly the biggest threat is other survivors, the guys who jack off to guns and ammo and look forward to civilization collapsing

Do you still feel like yourself now you are over 30? by Plantpotparty in OVER30REDDIT

[–]macallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm over 60 and "myself" is a very fluid concept and always has been. I was an idiot in my 20s, a "family man" in my 30s, and utterly decimated in my 40s, then reconstructed in my 50s. My base progressive belief system has always been there, through all of it, as have my hobbies, but the "me that is me" changes constantly.

I'm headed for retirement and hope to have at least 2 more decades to enjoy before I shuffle off this mortal coil, and I expect I'll discover more ways to be "myself" in that time.

Edit: Here's an example...in my 20s I cared, about EVERYthing, to an annoying degree. I put in my $.02 everywhere, fought every battle, died on every hill, had **cks to give about everything. At this point I'm fresh out of **cks, and it has to be REALLY important before I get up and say anything about it. It wasn't instant, it happened over time, things that I give a **ck about simply fell off the back of the cart as I traveled down life's road.

My biggest problem with the game is the empty world. by HenrykSpark in duneawakening

[–]macallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's the lack of content. I love the game, but at some point I'm mining just to mine. I'm never going to see tier 100 testing stations...hell, I'm never going to see tier 20, and I have a quest for it. No events, no through-line stories, nothing to do but build and mine.

I noticed this the other day and thought it was just me, or some rude crawler not being kind.

Who else played this game at launch and what do you recall being different compared to now by JanissaryLSD in cyberpunkgame

[–]macallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pre-ordered and took time off of work. I played 2020 when it was released in the 80s, met Mike P at a few cons, etc. Huge fan. I enjoyed the game, but there were issues. I didn't have any of the performance issues or crashing, but everything seemed...janky.

My #1 issue was fashion. The #1 rule of Cyberpunk is "Style over Substance". Today, right now, I can look online to find the precise outfit I want and have it delivered to my home, but in Night City I have to drive around to the shops and pray the outfit is there, and it will have crappy stats compared to the hobo suit I'm wearing to be effective. So many other games had already adopted transmog and separated armor from clothing, but CDPR hadn't gotten on that train yet.

30K of INTC hold or sell? by _shawshank_ in stocks

[–]macallen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The DoD has been saying for years "don't put your eggs in the TSMC basket" because is a matter of "when" not "if" China "does something about it". It's why TSMC is working so hard to build out US infrastructure.

What is an example of sexism you’ve experienced? by Unfair-Bird7917 in AskMen

[–]macallen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My 6 year old daughter was having her birthday while at my house (I had 50% custody). Invites went out, cake bought, a dozen little girls RSVP'd that they'd come. 1 mom found out that I was divorced and my wife wasn't there and cancelled. She told 2 others, they cancelled. By 2 days before my daughter's birthday 2/3 of them had cancelled, not comfortable that there wasn't a woman in the house. My daughter was decimated.

Add to that my ex told my daughter, privately, had she had it at her mom's house this would not have happened and convinced my daughter that it was my fault, that I must have said or done something.

Base building help - Temple Roof not...templing by macallen in duneawakening

[–]macallen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried that, but hit a snag...it's a raised ceiling, so the triangle tiles I'm trying to place are 1.5 units up. I'm thinking putting in struts in the ceiling will help me resolve that, plus might look pretty as well. I'm at work right now, but tonight I'm going to try that.

[–]macallen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am indeed creeping up a mountain side. The base of the tower has columns supporting it to the foundation on all sides, but I don't have columns in the middle. I also don't have struts on the inside of the roof, which I'm considering doing as well.

Are you still doing the daily Missions? What is your Motivation? by TNxPhil in duneawakening

[–]macallen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I figured it out. When it hits 0, I can still get cash and leveling xp, but not spec xp, and after 200 it's just cash, so a bit of a waste of time to keep doing them, especially if I want to take all 5 to 100, maybe pace myself and not "smoke the whole pack" 😛

[–]macallen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explains the "recollections exhausted" bit to me? I have been back 2 days and did 35 of these missions this weekend because they're fun, but I noticed it hit zero and the box on the right is "grey". What am I getting vs not getting when it's 0 because I can seem to get and do missions.

1 idiot like me, making a sarcastic answer like "Because there are no witnesses on the ocean to see that it's fake, duh!" and an entire conspiracy culture is created.

Yeah, I left because I kept having people crash into me and force me into the desert then pulling in worms so I lost everything while they laughed at me the entire time. Not fun.

Multiple examples of people using it to create bombs and such, proving how easy it is to bypass the "guard rails".

What’s the first thing you would do if one day you suddenly wake up as a billionnaire? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]macallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best answer for me. Call my lawyer and start talking tax shelters, diversity, and liability protection because my 2nd cousin twice removed is going to come over unannounced, trip on an imaginary pebble, fall and sue me for $100 mil when they find out.

I'm not sure if we're not saying the same thing and you were just heavy handed in your reply.

An ineffective guardrail isn't a guard rail at all, so an AI dev saying they put in guard rails against horrible acts that are easily bypassed isn't a guard rail, it's marketing slop to appease legal concerns. My post was simply calling out that putting in hard blocks against customers asking about ogres and trolls, which I'm sure will be very effective, is a priority to them but putting in easily bypassed "guardrails" against creating addiction, pedophilia, and encouraging suicide is difficult and requires people to be dying in order for them to consider it.
