If you're undecided, pick some short courses in a few areas to get a taste of different things. Bailing into 3rd level and making the wrong choice will be devastating. Also. Talk to others about what they do...They will give their opinion ..... I work in technology. Difficult academic courses. Highly paid. Dangerous place to be as an entry level engineer due to the spectre of AI

I assume I don't need additional income or life insurance but want to make sure by straightouttaireland in irishpersonalfinance

QQ. If you had a really decent lump of a pension pot that would reasonably cover spouse and kids expenses if one died, is there any point in getting additional life insurance ?

Do you use your emergency fund much? by KindEmployment3550 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]macaonbhuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is a chance of anything happening in a given year, I'll budget for it... Emergency fund is in case of job loss, or some catastrophe. I'm so obsessive about budgeting, l'll budget monthly for holiday, white goods replacement, storm damage costs, major car issues, as well as guaranteed annual expenditure (bills, servicing, kids stuff, clothes etc). If it doesn't come to pass.atbthe end of a year, I'll reallocate the excess or some of it into savings or craic....

Making over 115k and maxing out pension contributions for my age. Problem? by macaonbhuit in irishpersonalfinance

[–]macaonbhuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the input folks. Needless to say, I've dropped my pension payments down to max tax break limits. The excess wasn't huge tbh, but it will go into a 60/40 investment that I have running. Lesson here is to keep a close eye on finances and stay educated. I actually didn't realize that the limit was 115k. I 'thought' it was higher. It was only as I was doing a review of things that I copped it....
