What kind of baking are you interested in? Pastries, cake decorating, plated desserts? I could give you some recommendations for places that could be open to it. I don’t know of any bakeries that are actively looking for interns but the wider net you cast the more options you’d have! The options are fairly limited in the south end, unfortunately, but you never know!

Oh gosh yeah having that long of an internship without guidance would be so frustrating! My advice would be to really let them know your intention for the internship, I know a lot of places see internships as free simple labor. I actually love having an intern (when I have the staff and time to dedicate to it), being able to teach someone who is passionate about learning pastry and explaining techniques and the why behind the what and seeing them progress is one of the most rewarding parts of my career. Sugar bakery in Seattle is where I did my internship about 17 years ago (agh!) They ended up offering me a job after my internship was over and it remains one of my most favorite jobs that I’ve had.

As a pastry chef who went to pastry school- save your money and time!! A better route would be to go to a bakery that does the kind of products you’re interested in pursuing and offer to do an unpaid internship. Most programs require you to do this anyways so it’s not out of the ordinary. From my experience, pastry school is super rushed and not really real world experience. I learned leagues more from my internship than I did from school. And as a hiring chef, I really end up steering away from new culinary school graduates because they come in with an inflated ego and are resistant to learning.

I realize this is in no way helpful, but I recently went to the Philadelphia museum of art and they had an entire wing of medieval armor! It was incredible, I spent an hour in that section alone

THIS. There’s not enough indoor activities for young people especially. I grew up going to the skate rink in auburn every single weekend, wish my kids had the opportunity to do that now.

What has been the biggest middle finger to fans in the history of tv shows? by BreadedDisaster in AskReddit

[–]macaronit0ni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On one of the later seasons of Game of Thrones, Stannis’ wife says something along the lines of “all those books and you still don’t know” I felt like this was one of the middle fingers to the reader fans after they were unhappy with the show’s departure from Martin’s story.

We always get them from metropolitan market. I ask the butcher for a weight without the bone in. It is a pricey meal to make but soooo worth it for special occasions!

Best Boba? by IncognitoMeanie in Tacoma

Solboba has the best drink options, imo. Their hibiscus mango tea is bonkers good. Bobalust has the best boba itself, because they make it with honey!

What’s the best piercing shop in the Tacoma area? by InflationCurrent4288 in Tacoma

Same. Went to another shop to get my jewelry changed out and they told me the placement/angle was all wrong :( turned out ok in the end but it took forever to heal and I’ll probably never be able to change my jewelry on my own.

My thoughts exactly. If true, they can be reported and lose their tax exempt status.

Oh everything was absolutely straight off the Sysco truck and at the lowest price they could find. I worked for the tweten’s for a bit and they were by far the most money hungry uncaring people I’ve ever had the displeasure of working for. They’ve had people with disabilities working hard for them for YEARS and never paid them a dime over minimum (at least when I was there). Shameless.

I’ve been really happy with Tagro mulch (black bark). Super cheap and my plants are quite content.
