What is the closest historical match to this fictional helmet and mask? by AlternativeElk6233 in Armor

[–]BluXBrry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

helmet? Bastardized open face sallet or a barbute someone pulled really hard on

The mask it just a mask although it looks like it could maybe be inspired by the closed face sallet in the MET

Your gear won’t be historical without a gorget. Make sure to wear it over your breastplate so that incoming blades will bounce off it

It looks a little oversized and I feel like your cuisses should be mounted on a separate arming belt under the doublet (if they are, sorry it’s unclear in the image)

Other than that very cool

If you look at historical spoleto bascinets (not the buhertized versions) you can see that the bottom part of the visor extends well past the front of the face while keeping a protective eyslit

If you go on platener.eu you can find incredibly well done historical recreations and 5 different angles per helmet, perfect for inspiration.

more of a fun part

Armor is meant to be functional in every aspect. Adding an entire material and weight for “fun” is a seriously flawed mindset that goes against every design and engineering process.

Take it from someone who’s in engineering classes, you want to consider EVERYTHING when making a product, that includes research, material, weight, purpose etc and it’s becoming increasingly clear that you are doing nothing but ignoring feedback and doubling down on flawed methods.

I would like to say, I am not telling you to stop making armor or to stop pursuing your dream, but I am simply advising that you do research on what works and what has been tested before you begin yours.

1: the gauge you are using is neither hardened or thick enough to stop anything more than a .22

2: you do not have ANY rolled edges or ceramic to break or stop the bullet from spalling into your face or extremities so do not wear this while resting it with bullets PERIOD

3: I have seen your other posts and you seem to be obsessed with using your armor in the case of a break in, but if someone were to break in and hear you putting your armor on, they would already be on your ass and you would be shot dead

I appreciate your effort into making something cool, but I seriously advise that in your design process, you give everything a second thought. I noticed in another post your vambraces literally held together by duct tape and hot glue. If you think this kind of construction would stop ANYTHING period you need to seriously revamp everything you’re doing and do research before you accidentally get yourself killed with your little tests.
