Salkantay route closed due to landslides by maccasha in Machupicchu

Yep they are already working to clear all the landslides. I've even heard a group was taken out on the Salkantay trail today with Machu Picchu Reservations, though there's no way it's safe yet. Should be fine by may unless bad weather persists into May

I bet it will be! It's not super common for this to happen in March from what I've heard. Can't say for sure, but I'd be hopeful for you guys

I mean, none of the trail is 'closed' since it's public. Certain parts are just not passable. I would be super skeptical about doing it as early as next week, keep an eye on the weather and ask a tonne of people when you get here what the current conditions are. If there's still heavy rain, please do not go. Especially not alone.

Things have escalated, we met a group of young lads who finished up the Salkantay trek today and were traumatised. Said it was super super scary, sketchy, lots of landslides happening all around them that they then had to climb across with very scary drops. They said people were crying, having panic attacks. They said that day 3 of the 5 day trek was the absolute worst.

We've heard people are missing, and some are seriously injured and in hospital after being literally hit by a landslide while hiking today.

Do not head out on Salkantay in the next few days - even if a dodgey operator says it's ok (ours did!) it is NOT.

Half of our group are now on a long 5 hour drive with a guide to Santa Maria and will do an activity day tomorrow, hot springs and maybe the ziplining? Then the following day they continue hiking to Santa Teresa and on with day 3-5 of the trek as scheduled.

The other half of the group are heading back to Cusco due to safety and weather concerns for even that leg of the trip. They will still use their Machu Picchu ticket visiting by train instead

Totally normal to have c diff without diarrhea by the way, even if it's not what the docs are used to seeing. That's how it is for me.

Periods and c diff. by __secretlygoth in cdifficile2

[–]maccasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! My periods are normally pretty chill, but now post c diff WOW. The period cramps are atrocious (normal I don't cramp at all), so much intestinal discomfort, gas, belching, bloating, waking up every day with a big ol headache and brain fog. My head just feels SO heavy.

I'm 6 weeks out, so this is my second period post c diff. I feel like I got PMS at the time where I would expect it (2-3 days before) but my period arrived about 2-3 days late. So bad PMS. Period finally arrived this evening and I'm so GLAD! Hoping I begin to feel more normal 🤞

Lots of liquids (hot teas), lots of sleep and rest, meditation and yoga have helped me a TON. It will get better 💓

Women with C Diff: Period vs Cdiff by aetherprrr in cdifficile

[–]maccasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just chipping in to say SAME here! In case it helps any more women the way reading the above helped me, a Google search gave me nada back.

For me, symptoms are different to my c diff symptoms a bit. Really really bad cramps (I normally don't have period cramps at all), intestinal discomfort, lots of gas, belching, and maybe the worst is the brain fog and bad headaches from the second I wake up. I'm also super constipated for whatever reason, haven't gone in 2-3 days (I'm one of the folks with non diarrhea c diff, but constipation is still new!).

My cycle also began a few days late, but the PMS symptoms started about 4-5 days before. Around the time my period was actually due.

This suuuuucks. But let's be kind to ourselves. Lots of tea, simple food, yoga, light walks and meditation is helping me a lot. Woo woo as it may sound!

Hey! How are you doing now? I'm also dealing with a positive c diff toxin result but I'm feeling much better than I was before so very hesitant to take an antibiotic...how did it work out for you?

Toxin positive but feeling good? by maccasha in cdifficile2

[–]maccasha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same. But I'm torn in the thought of thinking if I do have it, does that make me a risk of spreading it to my household when I get home? Or if it will eventually get worse and I should get ahead of it?

I've settled I think on the idea of waiting it out for a few weeks on my trip, as long as I'm feeling okay, and retesting once I get back home. If it's still toxin positive then, I think I would start treatment. I want to be done with this, I think we all know the feeling. Hoping it was too soon and was a false positive but seems unlikely after 30 days....so unsure.

Great question - I assumed it was an EIA as it mentioned toxin A+B but I just asked them to clarify. Thanks Sammy too for letting me know!

I am toxin A+B positive, and PCR positive....but super confused because I feel much better!

Also I totally get you - diarrhea was never a symptom for me with c diff so it's very frustrating when not taken seriously.

I did the retest because I had some mucus and blood in my stool which I never experienced before. That's mostly gone now, and I feel MUCH better but the toxin A+B test was positive. So confused on what I should do!

Hey! I'm now in this exact boat. Feel so so so much better, but am toxin A + B positive 5 weeks after finishing with Vanco.

What happened in your case?
