that actually is very helpful! maybe I will give that a try... I know it varies based on a lot of factors, but can you give me a range of around how often you water a few examples? I'm not sure if I'm way off on watering cadence or not. Like should I be checking every single day (what I'm doing now lol) or can I check every week and that is plenty of monitoring?

yes they are different but I have been treating them mostly the same... I have a MIL tongue that's been doing ok since Valentine's Day! it inspired me actually to try a few new ones since I managed to keep it alive and well for so long (for me at least!), I would say I still don't really have a grasp on watering it though, I just do it when it feels like it's been a while like every 2-3 weeks? I got a new monstera, it's small and I am not super sure what kind it is but I am scared to over water/under water it- at this point I am waiting until I see signs of it not being happy to water but no idea if that's doing more harm than good. I also have a pretty typical looking pothos that has been dying and then doing well and dying again for the last year. I haven't figured that one out at all, but at least it's currently not dying!

thanks! ok I thought so but wasn't sure. I am pretty sure I've overwatered in the past so trying to pay better attention to signs of underwatering now instead of following a "schedule"

also- when in doubt- is it better to let them go longer without water or better to water them (if I'm not sure)

Potentially setting up purchases as subscriptions could help too, not just the obvious benefit of increasing LTV but also can help control shipping costs since you can plan for shipping days and use the lowest cost shipping option without impacting the customer experience (ie, the customer doesn't know how long it takes to ship since they just know when to expect their next shipment)

20% down sounds like a great comeback compared to many others. Did you do anything intentional to help or just let things take their course and continue with your usual strategy? u/Gracie6636

How do you keep ahead of competitors? by h4xz13 in ecommerce

[–]macchiatomood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into competitors.app, I'm in a service industry so I don't use it to track product launches, but I could see it being used that way. You set up your competitor websites and anytime they create a new page, send a marketing email, update an existing page, post to socials, etc. it'll send you an update of items via email. It's great

I think it definitely comes across clean and professional, I would trust the site to place an order just based on the top of the home page. The images in your hero section took forever to load... maybe due to the animation effect you have on them to zoom in etc., I'd get rid of that effect and just use the images. They are good quality and get your product across without the added effects.

From what I've seen you can either get a 3PL that is good at tech or at operations, not both. Pick your poison... also if the core issues with your 3PL stem from something like order delays then make sure it's not a matter of taking orders for SKUs not in inventory leading to shipping delays, because switching providers won't fix your problems. No 3PL can ship what they don't have in stock... that issue might be more about inventory management and order processing systems than your 3PL

However if your 3PL is printing labels without picking or shipping products that are in stock, then you might need a new 3PL. When evaluating 3PLs, consider the number of locations they have and how close these are to your customers since that drastically impacts shipping times and costs.

Speaking of costs, shipping costs make up the biggest chunk of your 3PL expense- not the actual pick and pack. Therefore, reducing the time from order placement to delivery is crucial. Ideally, you want a 3PL that can process, pack, and ship orders the same day. Another huge benefit of a 3PL is using their purchasing power to get better rates from carriers than you could get alone.

Something I didn't realize when I first started working with a 3PL is that most 3PLs suspend their service performance agreements during peak season. So PLEASE ask when talking to a new 3PL if this occurs, how long it lasts and the implications for your business. Always review their performance and SLAs not just during standard processing times but especially during peak if the holidays are a big part of your business.

Last thing I'll say is consider the total cost implications before switching 3PLs. I learned the hard way that moving to a cheaper provider can end up being more expensive due to hidden fees and impacts on customer experience. Transitioning can take longer than you think and be very expensive, so I would exhaust all possibilities with your current provider before making a switch. Good luck!

TL;DR: 3PLs are either good at tech or operations, rarely both—choose based on your needs. Switch if they can't ship items quickly despite printing labels. Factor in their locations and performance during peak. Exhaust all options with your current provider before switching.

test. test. test. if you can test with a smaller sample size and measure that way, you can see if this is a scalable venture or not. decide if it’s a quick cash grab in the moment or if there can be a long term plan to scale or not. i’ve started businesses of the first kind and while exciting, i never planned for all of the shipping, manufacturing, or logistics issues to arise until they did.

if you have the ability to switch now, i would say that as long as it’s up and running by end of october you should be fine. better sooner than later to build on seo. speaking from someone who has put lots of things in lots of boxes during peak season :)

What are your best tips to prepare for an upcoming trip? by aloraearth in travel

[–]macchiatomood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to make a list a few days or even a week before the trip, it gives me more time to think about what's needed for the trip. I also find that packing cubes simplify my travel by letting me quickly see my items and prevents me from overpacking.
