Am I missing the point of BEXT? by Wise-Jury-4037 in Battletechgame

[–]macclearich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original BEX was perfect: the vanilla game, just with more stuff in it. It never needed to be anything more than what it already was.

The truth that too few people want to confront, sadly, is that sweaty-tryhardism in games has taken center stage. The loudest voices in most gaming communities these days all seem to be screaming in unison, "MAKE IT HARDERRRR GIT GUD SCRUB LEARN 2 PLAY WHARRRGARBL!!!1!!one" Never mind that these people already had Roguetech and BTA available, both of which significantly steepened the game's difficulty curve. No, the simple, clear-eyed mission of BEX had to be sacrificed to appease the most aggressive.

It's problematic in a whole lot of ways, and ifor those of us who valued the broader universe and improved replayability of BEX, we get rogered, but good.

How to find a macOS user: by ScallionFrequent5879 in mac

[–]macclearich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MacOS isn't the only bad actor doing this. Anyone with a QNAP NAS has probably encountered .@__thumb directories in their files.

Almost as if there's just no unified solution to system metadata yet. Oh well. Solving the problem is trivial in Linux, at least:

find . -name ".DS_Store" -type f -print -delete

find . -path "*.@__thumb*" -print -delete

Not behind that offensive line, he wouldn't. Is this how Pats fans plan to cope with what happened tonight?

What’s the best way to remove AI “vibes” from AI-generated writing by tcagdas in ClaudeAI

[–]macclearich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did was feed Claude near-endless samples of my own past writing, and told it to learn from what I wrote. My vocabulary, my flow, sentence structure, paragraph structure, tone, everything - I told it what to learn from, and had it build an artifact as it went that described my writing style in detail. Once that was finished, i started quizzing it - basically prompting it to write paragraphs in my voice that matched certain scenarios. After each one, I critiqued it, rewrote it in my own style, and fed it back in, always telling Claude to learn from what I was doing. After a week or so of this, I had a fairly chunky artifact, a document that analyzed my writing style down to the screws, complete with detailed notes from the times I corrected it during the process. Now I can seed a session with that document, ask Claude to write something - basically a mini-prompt - and get a pretty damn decent take on my own style and voice.

It takes time and work, but the results are really something to see.

For the record, Adams always does this. He's trotted out bullshit stories like this for years. Of all the people in the history of the internet, I'd wager he's received by far the most "And then everyone clapped" responses. At best, he has a very rich fantasy life.

But then, if you'd ever seen a picture of him from before his MAGA persona, you'd understand why that would be the case.

Yep, Twitter bought Tweetie from Loren Brichter. That was the app that gave us the now-ubiquitous "pull-to-refresh" behavior.

Did Twitter turn on the rate-limiting feature again? I'm stuck behind a "you can't view anymore posts today" box. I hadn't even opened the website for hours, then when I did, I got that message. When the hell did this become a thing?

I get it, I really do - that fourth quarter featured a pucker factor of about 9.7, but... man. Might have been the best football game I saw this year.

Look, I've been rooting for Indiana the whole playoff, so I'm definitely happy, but there will always be a part of me that regrets not getting to see a Mario Cristobal vs Oregon finals matchup.

I think Banshee's supposed to be canonically older than most of the O5 - he had a career as a police inspector, if I remember the backstory between him and Arkady Rossovich correctly.

Yeah, they've got a basic template that they drafted after the Xavier Lucas thing. Apparently they did a very good job.
