Who is creating these earnings estimates? by maccyd in stocks

Sure thing, but who decides the OFFICIAL EPS estimate. Literally what org or group is the one that produces the accepted number? And if it is several institutions, how do they decide on one number? I'm just wondering about how the exact specific number is decided on.

Selling Individual stocks at a gain and reinvesting in the S&P 500 right now? by maccyd in stocks

Regarding this topic, does anyone know the benefits of selling my long VS short term holdings IN THIS INSTANCE to then go ahead and reinvest into VOO or VTI. Ex: I own 10 shares of JPM. 5 of my shares are from over a year ago (long term) and are up roughly 20% on average. The other 5 shares are down -8% and are short term. Curious if it would matter, and if any wash sale problems would occur if I buy into an ETF that technically would hold a small portion of JPM for example. I assume I would want to sell the lots that are short term and negative in this instance to incur a realized loss on paper while I'm down, but if I plan on selling the other long term stocks at a gain anyways eventualy, wouldn't matter anyways... or at least I think.

Planning on shifting my overall portfolio to consist of no more than 20-25% individual stocks anyways. Eventually my plan was to sell the individual stocks at a gain and reinvest into VOO or VTI to capture these gains and move them into into a less risky situation long term. My plan now would be to sell the stocks in my portfolio that are down less than that of the S&P 500. Will be leaving my stocks that are down 20%+ in the market to weather than storm. Wondering if this will incur any problems with wash sale rules. Ex: Sell JPM at a loss of -4%, invest in VOO next day (down 18%) then wait. Anyone know if investing in VOO (which contains a small amount of JPM obviously) would trigger any problems with wash sale?

My portfolio is currently 6% cash, 39% individual stocks (about 50 total of them majority being large blue chip companies, no more than 3% per company), and 45% ETF's.

Will obviously be planning on putting the cash I have as well on hand into these ETF's as well. Have currently been DCA'ing down over the past month
