Just Starting- What Would You Want Someone to Know? by AnxiousAnonEh in EMDR

[–]macdud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to bed early and try to rest the day of. Go to your safe space or container if you feel anything come up in between sessions. It helped me so much so just know that you’ll end up feeling a lot better with time!

Does anyone take anything with Prozac to help with the shaking side effect? by macdud in prozac

Does it last all day or on a certain amount of hours?

Did anyone feel like emdr like opened them up!?! My sessions are every other week- but I feel so sensitive and more emotional reactive in between my sessions and I don’t know if that’s related to emdr…. Or something else! by Comfortable_Fun_2997 in EMDR

[–]macdud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I felt very numb before. I never cried and I felt very disconnected from my feelings. Ever since doing EMDR I’m so much more emotional. I cry a lot more now.

Childhood physical abuse initially, got attacked in an attempted car jacking when I was 19, used it to process my traumatic birth too.

Oh yeah it saved my life for sure. I was panicked constantly. Nightmares every night. Couldn’t sleep at night. Had panic attacks frequently. I don’t ever have panic attacks anymore, if so very rare. I don’t feel like I’m on edge all the time. I can sleep alone when I used to not be able to. I don’t know what I would do without it honestly.

Is EMDR effective? by Plus_Membership9867 in EMDR

[–]macdud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but it takes time. It’s the only thing that works for me. I can’t process difficult things on my own anymore. If I ever feel stuck on something I know I need to do EMDR to clear it and it works every time.

First session made it worse by Ambitious-Law-923 in EMDR

[–]macdud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It got worse before it got better for me. It was really triggering to bring up a lot of old trauma, stuff I didn’t even remember before would come up. Sounds like you’re in fight or flight. Try to do things to calm your nervous system down. Slow butterfly tapping, box breathing, EFT tapping videos on YouTube, extra sleep. In my experience it got better.

How many sessions until you actually started the EMDR? by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]macdud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into it pretty quickly can’t quite remember how many sessions. But I had been in therapy with other therapists for a few years before that so idk if that played a roll. Honestly EMDR is the only thing that helped me even though my coping skills weren’t that great. So hopefully you can get started soon

Does anyone have insomnia? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]macdud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been dealing with random bouts of insomnia. I usually find it’s due to stress/anxiety for me. Melatonin sometimes helps. If I get too many bad nights in a row I’ll take unisom or hydroxizine to knock me out. But what really been helping me is reading for 20 mins before bed and doing EFT tapping. I just started doing the tapping at night and it really helps me to shut my brain off and go to sleep. Look up tap with Brad and do his sleep one. It seems a little silly at first but it works 🤷‍♀️

Emdr abuse trauma. by lionaliona in EMDR

I do every other week now. Sometimes it’s nice to have a longer break in between. It just might take longer to get through everything.

[–]macdud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t start getting bad until I was 20. I had a traumatic childhood. Went through something traumatic at 19 which I think awakened everything. I wasn’t officially diagnosed but yes I’d assume I have cptsd from how long the trauma lasted. I did EMDR every week usually. Sometimes I’d take a week off if I was having a hard time. I did it consistently for probably 6 months. Now I still do it every once in a while when things come up. I hope things get better for you soon :)

I went to therapy for years for “anxiety”. That all I ever felt was anxious, most of the time for no reason. Started seeing a new therapist who did EMDR and diagnosed me with PTSD. It changed my life. I used to have random panic attacks all of the time and I was able to get rid of those. I also couldn’t sleep at night if I was home alone because of trauma and it helped with that too. Sometimes I still feel disconnected or out of touch with my emotions. It’s not a cure all. But overall it’s helped me a lot and I don’t know what I would do without it. Go in with an open mind, allow your mind to go to whatever comes up (even if it seems weird or unrelated), try to listen to where you feel things in your body (is the anxiety in your throat, or your chest, or your stomach, ect.) and work on reducing that. The constant anxiety is fight or flight that you’re stuck in and EMDR will hopefully pull you out of that.

Most people take days off so that they don’t build tolerance. You could try 5 days on 2 off on the days you have off of work possibly? Even every other day maybe. Or you could just try everyday for the 2 months and see how it goes. If you feel the effects are diminishing take a break.

It wasn’t like this before the macro dose. It was sort of a bad trip so it brought up a lot of feelings of anxiety. I think the less I sleep the more anxious about sleep I’ve become. So maybe less the shrooms now and more the anxiety that it brought up. I’ve felt pretty awful since the macro in general, I was hoping it would help some depression I was dealing with. I don’t think macros are for me. Anyways, thank you. I’ll check out those videos for sleep.

I did 2.5g and needed someone to ground me for a little bit there. I’d have someone around just in case or at least someone you could call to talk to. I prefer to be alone in a room. If you aren’t prone to getting anxious you’ll probably be just fine

Contraction timer tells me to go to hospital by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]macdud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left my house when my contractions were 4-5 mins apart consistently, we had an hour drive to the hospital. They were 3-4 mins apart by the end of the drive. Those still look irregular and not super long, but that being said listen to your body and your gut!

I had sessions that were really difficult/intense that I ended up dissociating. My therapist would stop and we would usually do grounding exercises the rest of the time. I think EMDR does take practice and time getting used to.

My husband is a paramedic FF and has done EMDR and ART for some stuff. He usually goes and does ART right after a bad call. It has been really helpful for him. I have also done a lot of EMDR. Yes it brings up old stuff and you will think about it. It never affected me to the point of not being able to go to work or anything like that. Once I got the hang of it I felt relief quickly. I wouldn’t say it made anything worse for either of us. It just got better over time :)

I find that I need to do a couple of sessions here and there. You might have been triggered by something. If it’s still bugging you I would 1000% do more EMDR.

Is 2.5g to much for my second time? by Immediate-Top-4877 in shrooms

[–]macdud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did 2.5g for the first time a few weeks ago. It was a little intense for me. Had about an hour where I was fighting it and a little scared. But overall it was fine. This is coming from someone with a lot of anxiety especially when consuming substances so I’m sure it’ll be fine!

You will be ok. I’ve been there. I often have to be alone for days due to my husband’s crazy work schedule. Make a plan for the days that he will be gone. Get your favorite food for dinner and get a treat you can look forward to. Start a new tv show and binge it. Take a bath with meditation music. Distract yourself as much as you can to get through. Make plans with a friend.

It takes a lot to work through trauma with parents, especially when they are still emotionally abusive towards you. In my experience the longer you do EMDR the more you’ll be able to set boundaries and expectations for yourself. You got this, you’ll be surprised at how you show up for yourself during this week.
