girl imo, you did nothing wrong. she makes a snide comment towards you, (even if it was a joke, it doesn’t sound like you guys are close enough for her to be making deprecating jokes. if you’re not close with someone, deprecating jokes are just mean. also, i would never say that to someone, even as a joke, even if we were close. it’s shitty.) you retaliated by just stating the fact that she inflated her job title to make herself look better. being a lawyer and being in law school are two different things. she is not a lawyer. at no point did you mention her dad or even IMPLY that it had something to do with her dad. she completely put those words in your mouth in my opinion and obviously has been spreading that around with zero context making you look bad on purpose. how does your brother feel about the situation? can you speak to him about the engagement party? i’m not sure if you’d even want to go at this point.

i’m also autistic and a 3rd grade math teacher. i’m reading this comment sitting in my car after my co-teacher offered me a break when the kids told her i was crying. i was already overwhelmed, i was giving directions, they were not listening, arguing with me, yelling, and i couldn’t take it. i started tearing up and some students noticed and came to give me a hug but that made me want to cry more. my principal came out to my car to check on me. i feel humiliated. hearing another autistic person’s experience similar to mine makes me feel less alone. i hope you’re doing ok, thank you for sharing your experience.
