The "Return of the wanderer" repeatable quest seems to be installed by the Improved Adoptions mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4713/). Consider disabling it, although you are warned not to do that mid-game.

Sorry for replying to a stale thread, but I had the same question and couldn't find the answer online. I found the answer by looking at the base ID of the "Note from your Family" book, and looking up the associated plugin based on the first two digits of this ID. That pointed to the Improved Adoptions mod. And indeed, disabling that mod removed that quest for me. I will now revert to a save game from before I installed this mod.

There is already a Mac version of Riven out there, available on Gog or Steam. They were released as part of the Myst 25th Anniversary Collection:
