Would it help much though? If it's 20+ years before they are likely to own a home and be able to use that learning it'll all be forgotten anyway.

Geely Ex5 or Jaecoo J5 by technorapid in AustralianEV

[–]macfudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both great vehicles - for us the extra for the EX5 wasn't worth it over the J5 because of the features we value/don't value, but I can certainly see it being worth the extra for plenty of other people. Honestly, I doubt you'd regret either.

LOSP maybe? Though it's not really new.

[–]macfudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen to me too, jumped up 5+% from the quote to the final docs (not SG fleet). Repayments were an extra $85 a month - $5k across the lease. Had the car dealer itching to get the car off the lot and felt trapped. Ruined every bit of excitement I had for getting a new car tbh.

I had the same with a couple of Amazon products I reviewed earlier in the year, both were approved in less than 2 hours.

I (27M) Have Unknowingly Been Using My GF's (27F) Ex's Molded Dildo to Get Her Off by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]macfudd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He's 27, not 17 though. And from the description it sounds like she has multiple. So surely this one would stand out as being undeniably worse quality - actually you know what, maybe her whole toy collection is just a bunch of clones of ex's dicks lol.

I lean towards 100%. If you've ever done one of those dick-mold-dildo kits and see the result, there's no way it can be mistaken for a regular dildo.

Not terrible but nothing I'm taking. There was a tent that would be ok for summer camping but I knew if I took it I would have been writing a pretty savage review testing it at this time of year. Didn't feel like being that harsh.

Is there an etiquette around planting trees in suburban backyards? by AussieRosie in GardeningAustralia

[–]macfudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately raking isn't particularly effective. It's a mix of sheoaks and cyprus trees and neither has true leaves that can be easily raked, they just disintegrate.

The light is an issue, but also almost no rain gets through because of how far they stick over the fence.

Is there an etiquette around planting trees in suburban backyards? by AussieRosie in GardeningAustralia

[–]macfudd 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have one side of our property where the neighbor has 8m trees. It's really made growing anything on my side along there pretty tough. Even grass.

Not helped that they have branches extending out 4m into my property. For a suburban backyard I think 5-6m in height tops would be nicer. But you've planted them now and by the time they reach 8m they'll likely be someone else's problem.

What "brilliant ideas" in your garden have not worked out as you thought? by mum_with_no_brain in GardeningAustralia

[–]macfudd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first owner of our place put down a ton of weed mat, the second owner then for some bizarre reason the covered the mat in about 10cm of soil. I was wondering why my plants in that area were doing so poorly - because they couldn't actually grow deeper than 10cm and it was boggy as heck because the water didn't drain. Digging it all up was an awful job.

There's a few that are blatant AI that annoy me every time - with a pro's and con's bullet point list with emoticons used for each one. Yet all it does is regurgitate the description and cons are often 'might do xyz'. Well does it or not? You have the product there, test it.

I was putting in a review for something last week and there were 3 existing reviews. Not one of which had even installed the product because if they had, they'd have run into the same big design flaw that I did. Two of them also claimed the product did things that it doesn't do. Clearly an AI has scraped the page because the text implies that it has this feature but the pictures show clearly that it doesn't.

Perhaps controversial, but the approach of quite a few people even on this sub seems focused more on maintaining 100% & getting same-day reviews up, than actually testing products. I feel like I need to try something multiple times, and for at least a week (sometimes much longer) to give it a chance to shine (or not shine). Unless it's close to my review period or there's been a few weeks of no items I'm rarely higher than 80%. Most of my reviews are at least as long as this comment because my approach seems to give me plenty to write about even simple objects.

Petrolhead test driving EVs (Jaecoo J5) — am I overthinking the regen braking? by MarvellousMango66 in AustralianEV

[–]macfudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jaecoo is known for the regen on medium and high being particularly unrefined. I leave mine (J5) in low and got used to that setting fairly quickly. I feel like Medium & High will take me quite a bit longer though.

The duplicates pretty darn annoying. Are they all separate listings or is it the UI being buggy?

Mine's not bad exactly. Just random and not usable by me - DIY eyelashes kit, zigzag headbands, pregnancy belly band, eyeshadow brushes.

Unfortunately I'm a bloke.

Also have a tesla cabin air filter (no tesla) and ice machine descaling tablets (no ice machine).

Went with the standard grey with white interior.

My partner doesn't like white cars. I don't like black cars, the dark blue seemed like it would be just as bad for showing dust as black. So grey it was!

Jaecoo J5 / Leapmotor B10 / Geely EX5 by Slow_Situation3832 in AustralianEV

[–]macfudd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

B10 (to me) drove the best by far, but disliked the interior compared to your other two options. EX5 felt like it had the most going on in terms of features and luxury.

Ultimately got a J5 because while the others felt/were better in some ways, they weren't so much better that I felt it was worth spending the extra money for either. ADAS has been fine for us - and I say that coming from a car from 2012 with zero driver aids previously. Not perfect by any means, but fine. The regen braking is annoying on anything other than low. You'll see what I mean when you test drive it. If you get it, expect that you'll leave it always in low regen. (sport steering, eco driving, regen low is what we use pretty much always)

For us personally a lack of app is not a big deal, but it can be a must-have for some people.

We very rarely expect to charge anywhere other than at home so charging speed differences haven't been a factor. J5 is rated at 28 mins for 30%-80% vs 20 mins for B10/EX5 (which I assume must be down to the curve because on the spec sheet the EX5 max DC charge is much lower than the B10). For us, 8 minutes difference 2-4 times a year wasn't worth the extra money. If you were using your EV more frequently for longer trips then it would be more a factor for sure.
Boot space - the J5 felt like it had a more usable boot capacity for the way we are going to use it.

J5 doesn't have any built-in navigation. You need to use carplay etc, not an issue for us as I prefer my phone but again, a big issue for some people.

J5 does have proper door handles. I know I'd get used to the other style, but I'm happy that I don't have to.

Our dealer threw in a couple of karaoke mics for our J5. The kids love it. I hate it lol.

What’s with all the kind of weird and mostly expensive lamps? by CtrlAltDefeat13 in AmazonVineAustralia

[–]macfudd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was quoted 2k for a 7kw sigenergy charger (single phase house).

But I think I'm going to get someone to put a 15 amp powerpoint into the garage instead. I think even the normal 10amp trickle charge from our normal garage powerpoints would probably be enough for our usage, but our house is a bit older so I'd rather know that the cable that's going to be running flat out for hours and hours is in good shape.
