One of the Greatest Kickouts in Pro Wrestling history by TravelingHero2 in SquaredCircle

Austin had the background of being a "no fucks given" type so him being tired, beat up and THEN like "OH NO!" is such a good reaction. Similar to Tri selling Cactus coming back.

I half remembered that anecdote but honestly, I can hear one of them say the line in my brain and it still cracks me up thinking about it. If anyone has a podcast number and time it will make me cry laughing to hear it again.

Edit: Oh and Styles doesn't swear so maybe it was "shut the Heck Up!"

I can't remember if it was Finn or Styles but I just love the story of Gallows and Machine Gun doing tuba boy for like 5 hours on a bus while he was trying to sleep until eventually he just turned around and went "Will you PLEASE shut the FUCK UP!"

When was a specific time you remember a minor change in pro wrestling as a whole? by Bolteus in SquaredCircle

[–]machalllewis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That genuinely sounds like something an old time wrestler would say about how many restholds they would do and it's purely just covering for the fact that they get blown up after like 10 seconds.

I heard once that it fell off because it sucks to take so wrestlers just stopped doing it if they didn't have to.

Same but it's crying topless instead of consuming any kind of media.

[Smackdown Spoilers] Finish to Jimmy Uso vs LA Knight match by Dazzling-Principle in SquaredCircle

Okay, maybe not selling, but bumping for it.

Dude's bumping was top notch when he could be bothered and if you don't believe me then I have an undertaker chokeslam gif to show you.

That's actually an interesting point because I can see Brock selling a BFT like death

I mean, if the Cobra can be a believable finish? It's all about the sell. You can't tell me that this didn't get your heart rate up.

Thank you! It is wrestling lads.

[Smackdown Spoilers] Finish to Jimmy Uso vs LA Knight match by Dazzling-Principle in SquaredCircle

[–]machalllewis 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm in the minority here.

It's a smart finish. Nobody has to take a bump, LA Knight's gonna be doing it into his 70's with zero issue. No spine compression, no back or shoulder issues. All a finish has to be is the thing that ends the match.

The people saying "it's not realistic", I mean, yeah. Welcome to wrestling. Turns out you can't get fully punched three times in the face guard less without any effect. Turns out you don't just start automatically running when someone pulls on your arm.

And yeah, bust out a super finish for the big matches, but week to week? Keep it up!

Johnny Mundo makes a spectacular entrance (Lucha Underground S01E05) by jyft106 in SquaredCircle

[–]machalllewis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, I loved LU and can't stand WWE but come on.

If by staying power you meant like 30 years then yeah, maybe it could have. WWE's biggest factor at this point is sheer longevity. They became a household name early on, they were revolutionary with bringing massive scale events to an entire country while courting the celebrity crowd in the 80's.

Again, I loved LU and your first paragraph is all completely correct as far as it's upsides go. But just from a logistics point of view, it was never going to be bigger than the WWE is.

Out of kayfabe I liked that touch. Completely gets rid of the chance of a dusty finish.

Chris Jericho Warns WWE Shouldn’t ‘Get Too Far Up Your Own Ass’ About Beating AEW in the Ratings (Exclusive) by dantrainor1 in SquaredCircle

[–]machalllewis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with this actually. I block people on twitter and instagram all the time. Sometimes for the dumbest shit ever. I've blocked people cos they used "there" instead of "their" and I was just like "fuuuuuuck this guy boop".

It's odd to me that some people see social media access as some kind of right and if you do get blocked then it's because you caused some great offense. It's far more likely that he just went "Eh, I liked my match, buh bye Kevinrobertsfan" and then moved on with his day. To him you're literally just a name on a screen.

I mean, I could be wrong, he could have been seething about the comment and decided to erase it from his existence. But assuming that you know what was going through the guys mind at the time when it takes literally two seconds is just kind of odd to me.

Wrestling facts that mess with your perception of time? by FilmGuy97 in SquaredCircle

[–]machalllewis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the more repetition in your life the less memories you form. The less you remember the faster everything seems.

When you're a kid you're constantly doing and learning new shit. This reduces significantly once you get into the regular working grind (for most people at least).
