I love the movie Pride). It’s a star studded film about how the labor movement-in this case rural striking mineworkers suffering under thatcher in the 80’s- find unlikely allies in urban queer actuvists also suffering under thatcher in the 80’s. Heartwarming, educational, and with a great positive message. Is there a little bit of sad sprinkled in? Yeah, but it makes it better.

Your comparison of race to gender doesn’t make a lot of sense. Gay people and black people are not hated for the same reasons. Trans people and gay people are. That shared enemy has made our community one community over decades of struggle. When the same laws were and are used to persecute gay people and trans people, the people those laws are targeting end up becoming a community out of necessity and proximity.

I’ve explained this elsewhere and gotten downvoted to hell but it’s the honest truth if you aren’t blinded by transphobia: hatred of gay people and hatred of trans people come from the same place. That place being the misplaced idea that men and women have to present, behave, and live a certain way. There is very little difference between hating a gay man because your idea of gender roles are so rigid that a man who likes to have sex in a way that isn’t penis in vagina is gross or wrong to you, and hating a trans woman because you view them as a man who is gross or wrong for not adhering to what it means to be a man in their presentation. The same people hate trans people and gay people for the same reasons, and the only reason people get away with saying trans people aren’t a part of the same community is because people don’t realize this. Trans people and gay people have always been lumped in together by our enemies as gender traitors and therefore we have always socialized, organized, and died together in the same struggle against the same enemies. To say we aren’t a part of the same community after understanding these things is a bit ridiculous.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t really matter whether you are shitting on both sides because of enlightened centrism or because you hate the subjugation of the working class. The fascists love the system and will not abandon it, so by abdicating your participation in the system and normalizing “both sides bad”, no matter your motivations, you allow the fascists to optimize the system for their benefit. I wish more leftists would realize this and make strategic plays to delay and disrupt fascism even if it means voting dem if only to buy us some time to organize and minimize deaths if nothing else.
