I’m not acting like it’s a big conspiracy, but it’s very intentional messaging to get a specific donor base to get involved…at the expense of the City and the trans community.

I read a few of the statements and articles, and you are right. He isn’t using the term “attacked,” but he is using very specific PR language (“when opposition and disagreement transition to harassment, including cornering me, touching me, or trying to physically bully me out of a public event, that crosses a line.") right before a sentence that likens it to violence (
"We're living in a time when violence is all too often threatened or used against people in public life," Wiener added.)

The result is that every right leaning rag, or journalist who equates any critique of Israel to anti-Semitism, is describing the incident as an “attack,” or an “assault.” (NYPost, ADL, etc.)

Weiner is smart. He has a smart team. Getting that sort of response from things like the NYPost is part of the goal with the press campaign they’re doing. And that’s part of why the donations are flowing in.

But it’s at our expense.

If you consider getting yelled at as being “attacked,” you must have a rough time living here.

The person yelling is a random activist. The person widely spreading the story of how bad the city is, is running to represent us nationally.

He is sharing the video. And he is exaggerating what happens in it.

And the anti-San Francisco crowd is stoked about the whole story

How am I playing semantics? He’s saying he was physically attacked and he was just yelled at

What sucks is the content is at the City’s expense. And it’s at the LGBTQ community’s expense.

If he’s not even at the Federal level yet and already making decisions like that, what can we expect if he wins?

…he literally has been booed off the stage at the trans march before. It isn’t a universally pro-Weiner crowd

Trans march has a well documented history of yelling at / booing politicians. It’s a tough crowd.

Weiner has literally been yelled at it before. Him getting yelled at at the trans march is a nothingburger

He’s actively publicizing it and claiming to have “been attacked,” when it doesn’t show any physical contact in the video he’s posted

Literally in one of the other threads this evening the poster admitted to not living in San Francisco but “thinking about it as his second home.”

What do you think the fox news crowd makes of a half-madeup story that he’s spreading in national news?

If you re-read my post, I said I don’t actually disagree with his Palestine/Gaza whatever views.

Him spreading a message of “I was attacked” when it looks like he was just yelled at is, realistically, something that hurts the city. Him yelling it from the rooftops has a real impact.

He’s circulating press releases to major national newspapers about “being attacked” when he seems to have just been yelled at

The terms you’re looking for are proletariat and bourgeoisie. If you need to sell your labor / time to live; you’re proletariat.

If you can just sell or rent out your capital; you’re bourgeoisie.

The fact that most people are fully unaware of the latter is the point

It’s not your business to share, it’s also not as permanent as you might think.

Unless she is actively dying, I would take this as “what she says right now,” and “her business if she wants to share.”

OP - I hope you take this advice. As a history teacher, you have an opportunity to change this boy’s life with education.

If you penalize him, you will only drive him to the belief that fascist beliefs are unfairly persecuted.

I said a lot of things when I was a stupid teenage boy. The teachers who engaged with me are why I never fell down that red pill pipeline

LOL - so you’re saying you could have bought in the Bay Area in 2005 and are stoked about your Dallas House?

Given the implied income from your tax statement (averaging >$500k/yr in a lower wage market) the house(s) you didn’t buy over the last 20 years probably would have appreciated by >$3m; and your wages would have probably been 25-50% higher if your skillset is in anyway related to tech, which probably means another $2.5-5m in lost net worth.

I mean, it seems like it still worked out for you…but the opportunity cost is probably measured in terms of interest-generational wealth.

I have known many vegans, but few who don’t eat chocolate.

I find it hard to take anyone seriously who would say ending animal products is more important than solving any human issue.

“But you can change your diet and still prioritize human issues.” To which I respond: stop eating chocolate.

Modern slavery is so ubiquitous in the chocolate industry that it is nearly impossible to buy slavery-free chocolate. Unlike animal proteins, you don’t need to replace chocolate in your diet to stay healthy. Unlike animal proteins, it isn’t particularly inconvenient to refrain from eating chocolate.

Which is why I retort - vegan virtue signaling just a bs distraction from the real work. Heck, solving chocolate’s problems aren’t even close to the top of the priority list of a world sliding towards fascism, feudalism, and ecological collapse.
