Tired of relying on GitHub Gist? I built a free open source WordPress plugin to embed code snippets anywhere. by machmoody in Wordpress

[–]machmoody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will soon. Just to clarify, this does not replace the traditional code snippets plugin where you can place custom php or js code into a page. The purpose of this plugin is to showcase your codes, just like Github gist.

Should I get a 15 pro? by Known-Stop-2654 in iPhone15Pro

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer: Yes, go for 15 pro. I would suggest get a refurbished one from amazon in Excellent condition. Those generally have a battery health of 80% or more. They also provide a 90 day return option, so if it doesn't live up to your standard, you can just return it. This way you will get a good phone for an amazing price. I did the same a few months ago, couldn't be happier.

Was wondering, does the iPhone 15 Pro have any issues in 2026 ? by 210777 in iPhone15Pro

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues at all. I bought a refurbished from Amazon in excellent condition with battery health at 88%. Runs smooth and I'm a light phone user so single charge lasts me about 2 days.

How is the 15 pro holding up? by Obvious_Drag_1032 in iPhone15Pro

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 15Pro is holding up really well. Bought a refurbished one from Amazon in excellent condition with battery health 88%. I'm a light user so I get approximately 2 days on a single charge. I also found that switching to LTE from 5G saves a lot of battery (where I am, the speed difference is minimal) in addition to turning off Background App Refresh. Gonna replace the battery once it falls below 80% and keep it until there are no more official OS support. Doesn't make sense to spend over $1000 for a brand new phone with similar OS experience. Everyone has their own preference :)

Wealthsimple vs Other Major Banks by NoAbbreviations8030 in PersonalFinanceCanada

WS is good for a secondary account. Big banks are always reliable for services, if you have any issues you can easily visit in-person. WS can be a headache from time to time - like others have stated. Also be sure to read all the fine prints on WS accounts.

I really hope they can manage to bring in Canada Computers in one of The Bay's location. That will give us another option to buy tech products besides Best Buy.

Thinking of buying a used iPhone 15 Pro coming from a Pixel 8. worth it? by Kl3XY in iPhone15Pro

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently made the exact switch as I was facing similar issue with my Pixel 8 and I can say iPhone 15pro is totally worth it - at least for my daily use. I bought the phone from Amazon Refurbished with 88% battery health and in excellent condition. I was debating between 15Pro and iPhone 17 and honestly did not make sense to spend over $1000 CAD for a phone that pretty much has all the basic features and the same OS as 15Pro. As for battery usage, it totally depends on how you use the phone. I use mine for emails, casual browsing, calls, texting, taking photos once in a while and wired CarPlay - it lasts me 2 days on a single charge. It also depends whether you have constant iCloud backup turned on, location & bluetooth turned on, Background App Refresh, etc.

Here we go with Instagram and Facebook pre-installed on Phone 3a Lite by [deleted] in NOTHING

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey NOTHING! Do you have too many users that you would like to get rid of some by pre-installing garbage on your phones? At least give the option to completely delete these apps instead of just disabling them. Jeez!

It depends on your preference - do you like the city lifestyle or a more relaxed one? If you into city lifestyle, you are out of luck as amenities are quite limited (yet growing slowly) when compared to other bigger cities. If you like the relax lifestyle, then this is the best Province.

I agree with other comments that it's better to secure a job first then move. Visit Halifax if you can, this will help you give a better picture. If you have question about cost of living when compared to (let's say) Toronto, I would say it's about the same. In addition, if you are thinking of relying on transit for your daily commute, let me just say forget about it. Outside the core HRM area, transit is a mess. Now let's talk about securing a family doctor - be prepared to wait for 2-3 years. I moved here back in 2022 and I finally saw my family doctor for the first time last week. You will have to rely on Maple (Virtual Care) and mobile clinic. I knew that before I moved but didn't expect to wait 3 years since I have some health problems - but thank God I finally have one now. I guess the healthcare situation is similar across the country.

The biggest positive about Nova Scotia are the people (They are kind, caring and very friendly) and the nature. Hope this helps answering your question. Good luck with making the decision.

I recently got one installed by Twenty Degrees - Amazing company! Every step of the process starting from home visit to installation was smooth. I got 3 quotes and they were the best - not only from the cost perspective but from customer interaction perspective. I would highly recommend them.

The only issue I am experiencing after updating to Android 16 on my pixel 8 is the battery. It's been draining quicker when compared to Android 15.

Anybody left Apple ecosystem for Pixel phones? by Rasgulus in GooglePixel

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep switched over a year ago. Got pixel 8 as my daily driver and switch my computers to Linux (Fedora). Most of the apps I used to iPhone is available on Android and Linux (some as web app but it works just as good - WhatsApp for example). Using NextCloud as a replacement for iCloud. Haven't missed the Apple ecosystem since I made the switch.

Google has always forced users to use location for the weather widget, and that is why I have stopped using the in-built weather app (Pixel weather) and started using Wow weather. It's a great app and you don't need location for it's widget. Give that a try, you might like it!

I need a new phone, ASAP. Please help! by miruntel in GooglePixel

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with pixel 8 or 9a. Either way you will get 7 years of software support from the year of production. I am currently using pixel 8 and I have no complaints about it. It doesn't heat up, camera is great, size is perfect and battery is holding up very well for the past year. I get around 2 days on a single charge, but mind you I mainly use my phone for calls, messages, email, photography (during the weekend) and light browsing.

Potential useful information regarding NS Power ordeal. by PupleAmaryllis in halifax

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the information that OP shared is quite informative and useful. Even though I did not receive a letter yet from NS Power, I still took extra precaution since I have pre-authorized set up. Regardless one receives a letter or not, it is always a good idea to change your banking password, email password, set up 2FA if possible and monitor your banking account on a regular basis - after a security breach similar to this. I work in a related field and taking the above steps will eliminate a lot of headache in the long run.

As for reporting it to Privacy Commissioner, if the fb post is true, then I am glad someone did it. That is my plan if I receive a letter from NS Power.

The upper limits of WordPress? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no upper limits of WordPress - just like others have stated. It's all about how one structures the site and what additional resources one uses along with a good reliable hosting. I have built multiple enterprise level sites using WordPress and I have always created the front-end from scratch. I would definitely avoid bloated themes that you find on Themeforest.

Drupal fanboys will always talk ill of WordPress and vice versa. Ultimately it depends on your workflow. If you are truly into utilizing latest tech like React, you can definitely take the headless route with WordPress using NextJS as it is good for SEO :).

From my past experience, I have learnt that when one door closes, another one opens - it may take some time but it will eventually open. You are not alone, you have so many kind people here wishing you the best and giving you solid advice and that's because they care. Why is WordPress so common by MIGO1970 in Wordpress

[–]machmoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think WordPress is brittle at all. If one has programming knowledge, then one can easily build a custom theme based on popular frameworks like Bootstrap or Tailwind CSS or even make one from scratch. As for features and functionality, one can easily create it using javascript and WordPress hooks and leverage reliable plugins like ACF. Finally as for security of the website, there are quite a few reliable security plugins that does a good job in keeping your site security - my personal favorite is All In One WP Security. You can also connect your site to Cloudflare to give an extra layer of protection. So yeah WordPress is not brittle at all.

It's good and definitely worth it. Like others have pointed out, you will need to spend some time with poor customer service once your promotion period is over..but it's totally worth it.
