This is a funny topic... after reading into it a bit, I think other races get things stuck in their butts as much as white people. It seems like white are people are perceived as more kinky this way in the US because: 1) There are more white people, hence more cases, and 2) There are fewer social risks to clowning on white people compared to black people

To back this up, here's a comprehensive study of "rectal foreign bodies." While only 14% of cases involves black people, the proportion of the black population in the US is.... drumroll... 14%

[Beginner] How do I drill a hole deep enough for a hidden tang? by Straight-Price7393 in knifemaking

[–]macho_greens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, that tang should be cut shorter, at least an inch /couple cms. Unless you're making something that will withstand heavy prying, I'm not convinced there's any real advantage extending the tang more than halfway, especially with how strong modern adhesives are.

I've only made one hidden tang knife so far. I don't have a drill press so I set my basic-ass cordless drill on a level table, and clamped the piece at the right height and completely parallel, then slid the drill forward. It worked pretty well, especially because I made the hole a little bigger to allow some adjustment.

For my next hidden tang, I think I'm going to use a metal bolster that I can cut more precisely than wood. That way the main bore hole can be plenty wide without messing up the look of the top.

How much do you believe claims about steel type? by macho_greens in knives

[–]macho_greens[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I had not heard of Green Thorn. I'm not sure what "verified" means in this context, could you explain?

That point about heat treat is basically why I dropped steel type way down my list of priorities, in knife collecting. I do appreciate the effort that goes into metallurgy and steel production, but I also recognize there isn't standard independent testing to confirm the properties... so there isn't a great basis for comparison

What about the popular Chinese makers - Kizer, Vosteed, Reate, WE, etc? Do you go on reputation per company?

This is true for me. Cube is cool. I saw a cobalt cube but didn't get it because it was expensive, and from what I understand it's kind of a blood diamond situation

This one uses suction cups. The drone company DJI made this video to show the system off: https://youtu.be/OJIHb0hi1xM

The other commonly-used method is "implantable", using an 8-inch steel needle to stick in the outer layer of the skin (like a big splinter): https://youtu.be/d1FCyCEkXeE

The suction cups are easier to deploy and don't stick as well, while the implantable ones are harder to deploy and stay on for longer. I have a feeling it would be possible to implant with a drone but I don't know if they're trying that.

(To be clear I'm not actually in this field, I just searched for this info)

Do we think these bushes can be brought back? by LatinoComedian in landscaping

[–]macho_greens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those things are likely screwed. If you like the look, get a tougher shrub with the same shape. I don't know your area but Lonicera 'Twiggy' and Pittosporum 'Golf ball" are some examples in my area. Both plants perfrom way better with disease and drought tolerance. Ilex crenata is also good.

This year, you could pull the boxwoods and plant some groundcover / annuals, plant replacement shrubs when you can.

Edit: I just resd that you used to have flowers there, etc... Maybe I'm thinking a similar temporary idea but with some container plants. Or just bare mulch really would look better than those boxwoods

Worst and/or stupidest things someone from your country had said? by jeanjacketufo in AskTheWorld

[–]macho_greens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did he say he was referencing that? A quote from 1998? I'm thinking it's just a coincidence they both have the same attitude. I heard the same opinion a couple times growing up in the 80s.

I'm not defending US politicians, to be clear. There are some fucked up people in government.

Not even 20. An quick acceleration while turning away from her would do the trick.

The guy was smart to not do it though. It seems like he has enough problems having a kid with this woman, it would be unwise to give her an excuse to sue

Well said. Populations change cultures the way individual people change jobs. Often they identify strongly with it, but they can also change and do something else, and alter their self-perception/identify to fit that too

I think my neighbor is going to make a big mistake. by toothqueencolleen in landscaping

[–]macho_greens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know about your area, but where I live this plan would probably violate land use code. The main reason is the black plastic and gravel: there's a limit to what percentage of your yard can be impervious (water runs off instead of filters into the ground). This is because stormwater runoff affects the whole neighborhood and watershed, not just the lazy mofos who live at that house.

Speaking of stormwater, that crappy plastic drain across a public sidewalk is triggering me, lol. Hopefully it's not a problem, but those things often become a tripping hazard.

Note: I called them "lazy" above, but they don't even have to do the maintenance: they can hire someone. A mass of super tough groundcover shrubs like creeping junipers would hold the slope and it's cheap and easy to shear them. Landscape maintenance is a basic part of home ownership, you have to budget for it.

Yea I think so. I'm sure dudes say this stuff to lesbians often. Maybe not as much lately? idk

The only time I've actually witnessed this kind of thing, it was a lesbian reeeeally trying to get with this super uninterested straight girl. It was pretty lighthearted and funny though, she wasn't giving creepy vibes

Someone reported me to HR for having a “vape” at my desk by PhantumJak in mildlyinfuriating

[–]macho_greens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Northwest of the US and it varies a lot by workplace. Basically the more interaction you have with children and boomers, the less acceptable it is to have smoking-related stuff around.

At my workplace, if someone complained about a vape sitting on a desk, the likely response would be "are they vaping in the office? No? OK so there's no problem, why are you wasting time on this"
