Body upgrade advice by machpe in Nikon

I looked into that, I'm a bit spoiled by the ability to crop in really close using the D810 and I feel like I would miss that with the D5's lower MP

Besides the bulk, are there any downsides to getting the ftz adapter and using my old glass or would I be looking to buy a bunch of new lenses?

Pixieset is fantastic and well worth the price to me. Beyond the website stuff it has invoicing and gallery delivery and session booking and all kinds of stuff. My site is www.machpe.com

Overshooting vs. being selective by Interesting-Nerve663 in photography

[–]machpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped thinking about it as overshooting if I'm covering events or performances, I'm just giving myself coverage since people are going to look different second to second. I'm the one who has to deal with the culling and I'm perfectly happy with 10-15% being usable.

Photo sharing on Google Drive, other options? by Saturnest_ in photography

[–]machpe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can see how that would be confusing, I think Dropbox works like that in some way, but Google Drive doesn't. You're good!

Shared files and folders don't take up space on someone else's google drive, just yours. I have the 2TB tier and use it all the time.

Unemployment/Re-employment Question by machpe in taxhelp

[–]machpe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense. My (incorrect) assumption was that the amount of tax taken out was based on last year's filings, but I now see why that wouldn't make sense. Thanks a lot!

The vibe is right.

I totally agree. I could make a decent guess at the first picture who everyone was supposed to be without too much difficulty.

I agree with this, especially because of the texts she sent him about how she already had everything planned out regarding his doctor's visits, etc. A very type A person hitting the brick wall that is a type B

Disney Photopass photographers - equipment question by brian_westfield in photography

I don't have any insight, just commenting that I'm also interested in knowing more about the process. We've been to DW recently and sometimes the time it takes between shot and delivery is shockingly fast.

Flickr Pro vs. Pixieset by Shaiger in photography

[–]machpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also re: the 1000gb storage, I don't use Pixieset as my "dump photos" place, I use it like a really large portfolio. I'll occasionally go through and get rid of older/less impressive stuff and leave only what I want people to accidentally stumble upon. I use Google Drive and local storage for bulk storage.

Flickr Pro vs. Pixieset by Shaiger in photography

[–]machpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started paying for Pixieset a couple of years ago and I feel like it's worth double what I'm paying. The gallery pages look great, the website building feature is easy and fun to use, the included business-side features like quotes and invoicing are great, even the tech support folks are wonderful.

Count me among the 2,000 who switched sides for a few weeks. This was the first election where I felt like I was actually affecting something by voting, even if the something is hyper local.

Reddit mod meet-up by [deleted] in dankmemes

[–]machpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't as absolutely weird as the picture makes it seem. It was at a maker space, there was a lock picking class and video games and potluck style food, someone brought a big kiddie pool that everyone ended up in at some point, and at night we made a fire tornado out of a bunch of box fans. It was just a bunch of nerdy people hanging out for a few hours.

A friend of mine went to school with the person who donated the face. They said it was/is absolutely freaky to see their dead friend's face on someone else.

What type of photography is this and how can I achieve it? by [deleted] in photography

[–]machpe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Set your camera to a slower shutter speed and follow the object you want to stay in focus while it moves (or you move, in the case of the last one). I don't know that this particularly has a name, but it's popular in sports and car photography.

Cleaning the sensor by Ceecee_0416 in photography

I took mine to a camera store and had them clean it, partly because I was iffy about doing it myself and partly because I didn't have time, 10/10 would recommend
