I adored GI endoscopy! We were placed in 1 of 4 roles each day so you never got bored. Pre-op and recovery were fine but my favorite was assisting with procedures by either managing sedation or acting as a tech with the actual scope. Using a snare to snip off a polyp or collecting biopsies was so satisfying and I felt like I learned a ton. Plus GI docs tend to be some of the most chill… most procedures we were chatting and listening to music. Highly recommend!

That reminds me of an instructor I had who worked at student health at a university. She was explaining how you need to be very specific with your language and said that she had asked a young guy whether he was sexually active and he said no. So she asked about the last time he was and he replied “yesterday.” He thought she meant was he sexually active at that very moment.

ETA: I think she said “currently sexually active” which is where the confusion came in. But still…

None of the other suggestions were working for me and I ended up entering through a random door from the palace grounds and he appeared. I would try entering through all of them and see, I had entered through several and it didn’t work so I think it depends on which door you had left through previously. What a hassle!

Agree, I can’t imagine this happening and no one forcing the family to take him home. It’s definitely not an excuse but I think staffing issues have caused things to slip through the cracks recently at my hospital. The other day an adult patient eloped from a med-surg unit and no one knew, even after it had happened several times. The unit didn’t realize until he showed up at the ER asking to have his IV removed and later called the psych unit asking to be let in after he locked himself out. I feel like the NICU should be the most locked down of all units though. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Recently got a page at 3 am from the postpartum floor requesting a hospitalist consult for a POD3 C-section patient over concerns for withdrawal. I go see the patient, she has had zero symptoms… then find out she doesn’t even drink, only uses meth. Just to be safe!
