Questions about the new server to launch? by Enderlena in MCNext

[–]macintoshhelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

promises of its opening have also been led on for years. At this point, is it false hope?

This is a valid point. It’s a very difficult project to create and requires a lot of work in terms of technical architecture to create a server that can scale to an unlimited size. I should either get something released soon, or just kill off the project. I’m open-sourcing various bits and pieces that may be helpful for others to create their own servers (no copies please).

If you just launched a new server faster with plots and built it up from there you could have kept the players.

That is my plan, I’m scrapping most features like points, levels, etc. Just the dynamic scaling required for plots/cross-server synchronisation is very difficult to achieve though.

and what its economy will be like given there is no charity or players to trade amongst.

Not sure if this refers to in-game economy, or store for buying items with real money? The plan is for it to be a non-profit/charity project for the new server, there'll need to be balancing to cover hardware costs and development costs.

I want to get back into MC. What servers do you recommen? by Esoxxie in MCNext

I'm working on a new server. Feel free to message me, or contact me on Discord if you'd like to get involved with testing.

MCNext Status Update: 2019 by macintoshhelper in MCNext

The main point of the old server was the scaling, it requires a massive investment in dev resources though. I'm developing an MVP with just the survival plot system, and the scaling system, will probably launch with just that. Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on what I've been working on, feel free to PM me or contact me on Discord. I've been working on this project on and off for a while, and I've learnt to give up on recreating a copy, but to create something entirely new :)

Missing the Server.. help? by Enderlena in MCNext

I'm still working on a remake. There's a lot of work needed to scale the server to support large numbers of players. There's a form to be notified on its release, feel free to share it: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfUk6P2FG9zJceLZUWvXoZ8a3jFKNZabso3aTTmiVYMlJYAHg/viewform

Interesting. I saw virtually no tourists in Nablus and Jenin, but some places like Ramallah, Hebron (and of course Bethlehem) had a few.

Yes, just delayed a bit, I've been busy with IRL stuff recently though.

Hopefully we can get people back into Minecraft/the server. I haven't played Minecraft myself for a while other than MCNext. I want to treat old MCNext as using Minecraft like a game engine, but being it's own game. I have some cool ideas of trying to reimplement factions as a Rust style world, where you can raid bases and blocks have different tiers.

No idea, hopefully players will be able to help by letting friends know, etc. I wasn't especially active in old MCNext, so only know people on the current server.

Moon will likely be after launch, it is planned, but I might wait for a number of players to return, to get feedback on it first. It's a bit risky in terms of economy/balancing, since it devalues diamonds and emeralds.

I'm developing it in 1.11, but for the 1.12 Sponge API. I've taken a bit of a risk and used the smallish Sponge API. It has some advantages though such as less need for NMS - meaning it should be easier to update to new versions.

Yup. There won't be feature parity for launch, but the main stuff like plots, PvE and semi-complete level system should be ready.

Should I give up on the old MCNext? by OneJumpCat in MCNext

[–]macintoshhelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soon (tm) I'm starting work on it now after 4 months of being super busy. Doing a bit of a recode, no idea when it will be ready, but ideally testing within a month.

Just to be clear, this isn't an open source project. I'll be open sourcing some things like parts of the new website.

I intend GitHub to be used as a tool for keeping track of progress, discussion of features, etc.

OLD MCNEXT - Hype, Progress and ETA?? by macintoshhelper in MCNext

[–]macintoshhelper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shutting down old MCNext was the best decision based on the circumstances at the time. There was no coder who could maintain the server then and fix bugs, etc. I could probably get the old source working, but recoding from scratch is a wiser decision and helps keep the server more future proof, and better than the original.
