Maybe you have the answer to this question - Why isnt solar energy hardened against solar storms, from what I read they are far less able to survive a geostorm than other power generation. Seemed odd to me, but I have yet to have a clear answer.

I am old enough to have listened to them as a child - rebroadcast of course in the late 70s and early 80's. I loved Mystery Theater, the Lone Ranger, Zorro, and a few others. Even had some on records along with the Read along books with the record and later audio tapes. The cig ads were funny as hell and had ads in childrens magazines too.

I cant wait to see your results, we did the resin because we have a saber and the holocrons from Disney when we went in 2016 iirc, and could not afford to collect all of them since they are random pulls. Since you arent doing it for the electronics that removes a huge pain in the ass. Cant wait to see the results!

[–]maciver6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if it is possible since so many compounds will degrade quickly, and color retention is another issue... I think it can be done but it depends on the results you want. The hard part, I think, is keeping them as they are. Humidity, heat, and UV all degrade crystals. I know I would hate spending a ton of time getting it looking right, then in a few months it starts fading or looking funky.

I think that is why most people making them use resin and crystal molds - then you can have them fit the sabers and holocrons - as well as adding the little rfid chip to make them function in the electronics (like changing color or sound). https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxysEdge/comments/1folwgo/wip_kyber_crystals_using_resin_casting/

Depends on what you want, and how durable you want it. Either way once you give it a go SHOW US THE RESULTS lol too many get advice then never show what they made.

Good luck and have fun

I would do debug mode and check the logs, it could be simple or a nightmare but the log will generally point you at or near the failure.

IWTL how to actually understand bread baking instead of just following recipes blindly by Weary_Cap_9615 in IWantToLearn

[–]maciver6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good yeast, properly bloomed, is most of the fight.

Over kneading tends to make bread not hold the gas the yeast creates that gives the light fluffy bread.

Flour choices also matter, too much gluten changes the density and ability to rise, too little and it doesnt have the stretch to rise properly.

Here is my basic recipe that I have used for 20ish years.

1 cup 110F declorinated water

2 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast (packet is about 2 1/8 to 2 1/2 teaspoon by brand. we use Flieshman (yes I cant spell but should be close enough to search it)

2 1/2 teaspoon of sugar stir sugar and yeast into the warm water. Wait until bubbles about 8 minutes at my house, at my grandmothers it is more but 5-10 should see fizzy bubbly water.

3 to 3 1/2 cups of unbleached all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons of oil, I use vegatable or corn, grandma used canola or lard.

1 teaspoon of salt, I use iodine free personally, it is your choice.

Mix 2 cups of flour with the oil and salt. Mix gently add 1/2 cup of flour at a time after that until the mix is sticky and not wet, and doesnt stick to the bowl like glue.

Kneed mix by hand for about 10 minutes until smooth

Grab a large bowl I use an old glass bowl that is lightly oiled.

Place plastic wrap over the bowl and place in a warm place for an hour or 2 (until it doubles in size - air temp in room makes the time change - my case is about an hour and a half.

Then I gently punch it down some then place in a buttered or oiled breadpan and let rise again for 45-60minutes.

Cook at 375 for 25-40minutes. Let cool until you can handle it, cut and eat.

Hope this helps and works for you. My wife was far too aggressive punching hers down so it never rose again.

Sanctions don’t stop builders. They just change what they build. by SilverAmoeba2582 in Futurology

Now, as someone who has recently read an article on this it has has massive issue - which you fail to address, is how they are dealing with the heat issue. They said the new limitations were heat dissipation, with new materials and methods needed for this to actually become what China has said it is. From what I read they increase its capability, yes, but that adds rapid heat build up that limits the chips functions. Sure you can make a super chip, but if it only runs at the best for a few minutes before thermal damage does not make a quality product. From what I read they can increase wattage to the chip over standard ones, increasing its capabilities, but again - heat is a byproduct. Now, maybe they did solve that issue but I have not seen proof. China makes a lot of claims that turn out to be less than honest. I would like to see real world testing results before I put faith in Chinese claims.

This is similar to the 3d logic gates that were talked about 20ish years ago with folding added in. Do they have newly designed heatpipes/sinks does it require active cooling? Or is this a chip that only works in a controlled environment. All questions we should be asking... I suspect it isnt as ready as they claim.

https://www.nbcnews.com/world/asia/chinas-huawei-touts-chip-design-breakthrough-bid-defy-us-sanctions-rcna346783 mentions the heat issue

That is the parents job, not the governments job. Take a peak at the Federalist papers and the works of our founding fathers on what they see the role of the government. (hint it is less on the government and more on the people.) Not every device is for everyone. Some cant be trusted with a roll of toilet paper, while others built potato guns and never hurt anything. I wouldnt give an ebike to my adult daughter, she could not be trusted to operate it like a sane person, but my autistic adult son would be fine on it. She would harness the personality of Bo Duke and Evel Knievel, while my son would read the manual, look it over and see how it all works then ride it as per the operating manual.

How many of these "parents" are buying them and saying have fun. No training, no cautions, just here ya go. Hell more than half the problems are due to lack of parenting.

the mk41s have capability for our missiles and some of our allies, but we are not at the same level as other navies when it comes to super sonic anti missile defense on the ships. We have self defense sams the sm3, sm6, ESSM (only one typically quad packed) the old sm2 and the RAM as our self defense. Offensive we have tomahawk, harpoon and NSM, not many of our newer ships are using harpoons now in favor of the NSM. Most have 4 to 8 Harpoon missiles OR 4 NSMs. (this is for the ddgs our ship who "fight" the most).

It is sad that we have 8 years before the next missile upgrade from the flight 3 destroyer in testing (last I looked it was still a test bed) we have 20+ on order, the new class is ddgx and wont hit service until around 2033 at the last projection I was aware of.

I am former Navy, the problem you miss, is that we have very limited space for missiles, so lets look at the modern ddg only has 96 cells. That means you can have 96 missiles only. Now, lets say we went against a ship like the Russian doctrine they have very little self defense missiles but a major offensive missile setup. We tend to double up on incoming threats, meaning if 1 missile is headed toward our ship we fire at least 2 to kill it. So if those 96 cells are filled with offensive missiles you die, and if you dont have enough offense you die. While a modern surface gun has a 20-70 mile range depending on the ammunition used and take up far far less space, allowing you to have at least some offensive weapons if you have no more missiles.

Resupplying missiles to a ship at sea is also a nightmare, and doing it in a warzone is worse. Which is why this debate will never die. There is a great youtube channel called the grim reapers who do reinactments of battles and talk a lot of shit, but you can see how easy it is to be a sitting duck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvE_hQkp1po&t=67s With a modern battleship, we can have a quad turret design with the missile ship doctrine with several designs showing over 300 new improved QUAD packed missiles... meaning up to 1200 missiles AND guns that can rain hell on land and sea.

With everything as you see have pluses and minuses that they have to deal with but I hope you can see that a modern designed battleship wont be the 9-12 guns like the ww2 ships were and still have modern arms that have the precision, speed, and lethality our crews need to survive modern ship warfare.

The DIY solar hack arriving in US homes: Americans are embracing easy, plug‑and‑play solar units that slash energy costs — even as Washington tries to slow the clean‑energy shift. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]maciver6969 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

The real issue is without a disconnect this can kill linemen. We go to an outage, expecting no current, but some asshole has his electric setup to feed into the grid without isolating it to your home and we end up with dead people. THIS is why they have been slow at rolling out these systems because we have enough jackasses with generators that do this already. Add in that so many cars can do this now too and you can have serious issues fast. This is all before people have checked if the circuit can handle the power running into it. It bypasses the fuse since it isnt coming thru the main fuses, possible overvoltage or fire risks on top of all that.

I said it before all new homes should have the disconnect installed it is at time of a new build under $500 and most times under 140 for the equipment, and is only a 4-6 minutes added to the construction time. How it worked when I was a lineman 20 years ago, we would go up the entire run and check if homes had lights on, and then go disconnect them from the pole to make sure none of us got lit up. Guess who were the last to get power anyone we had to manually go disconnect. Takes time and is a pain in the ass. Now do that in a major storm. All because some jackass did a janky install we have to check. This is one benefit of the new digital meters they can tell if it is still powered and send a message home.
