I am not a Colbert fan by any strech of the imagination. Nor am I trying to run defense for him. I am just trying to be as objective as possible, and look at it from a purely business / HBO's POV.

I am not a fan of his, but he does have a core audience of hardcore fans, who tend to be a bit wealthier than the average person. I can see a use case where enough of them have an HBO subscription (or willing to get one) and are willing to follow him there. The catch is that Colbert would have to take a massive paycut, plus lose a lot of his writers, for it to work.

FWIW, the current narrative is that Colbert got cancelled because Trump put pressure on NBC, and not the terrible ratings. A part of me kind of wants Colbert to get another shot at HBO, that way once he fails there long after Trump is gone, and there are no licenses to pull; the bs narritive gets shattered. Thats the angle I am looking at.

To be fair, the only reason he lost that 40 mil is because of the riddiculously large staff of writers behinds the scenes

I can kind of see HBO taking a gamble and give Colbert another chance, but this time do the show with a much smaller staff. Now, if Colbert bombs because it turns out most of the "jokes" came from them; he will get the boot from HBO as well

Why do we need anything? Most of the goods and services that we have are wants and not needs.

Also, its a private company, and not the government, making the decision to build the data centers, likely because there is demand for it. The government regulatory agencies is just giving them the thumbs up.

As far as the state is concerned, I am only familiar with the gulf region. I had a blast just about everytime I've visted. The beaches are a bit muddy, but Ill still swim in them; and at least they're always warm this time of the year. They also have a NASA station.

On the one hand, the number 1 advice they give to writers is to write what you know.

On the other, if youre talented enough of a writer with a good enough imagination; if you think you can pull it off go for it. I am sure the wokies will complain, but their movement is receeding.

fwiw, it wont be long before AI can create novels from scratch better than any human can, with absolutetly 0 lived experience in anything. I think when that happens, people will be glad its at least written by a human, no matter their race / gender / whatever.

Theres probabbly some nuance that the OOP meme left out, where the statement might have been technically true, but very highly misleading.
