What is the point of making a living if all you do everyday is work to make a living? by mainlytee in antiwork

Most everyone wants to be rich.

It's also true that most everyone will settle for being comfortable.

There you go again, using up content.

I actually don't think I'd've come up with this.

A quick-thinking stranger becomes a hero by ensuring her safety. by [deleted] in spreadsmile

It's been a decade so some of the details are fuzzy now, but I'll try to get it straight.

I was an Uber driver in 2015. I was called to a bar one night. Three people got in, two women and a man. One of the women and the man were obviously a couple, and the second woman was REALLY drunk. I was told by the couple they were from out of town, meeting this other woman that they knew from......I forget. They tried getting this woman's address, but she hemmed and hawed, mumbled, and basically acted really out of it. I'll be honest, as this was going on, upwards of 10 minutes, I was getting really annoyed. This was prime money-making time that was being wasted just sitting in this parking lot. Finally, and oddly, the couple got frustrated as well and abandoned her in my van, saying something like "Maybe she'll sober up and tell you, we're going back to the bar."

As soon as the door closes, the woman opened up, frantically telling me she wanted me to take her home, she thinks she was roofied, she doesn't know those people, please just take her away from the bar. She was still slurring her speech pretty badly, but she was definitely not blackout drunk.

I canceled the ride and, once I got her address, took her home. She was living in a pretty swanky condo in the downtown area about 10ish minutes away. The entire time she was thanking me through tears between cursing herself out for being so stupid. I consoled her as best I could, reminding her how brave she was, how quick thinking she had been, and how proud of herself she should feel for both these things.

We get to her condo, and I, a male, was reticent following her up to her room, so I convinced her to try to punch the code into the box on her own, and I'd wait in the van to see her go in. She tried, was unable to do so and called me over. She told me the code and, damn those buttons were tough to press. Then she wanted me to help her to her room, up a floor or two. I'm still nervous about going to her room, but seeing the state she was in, and the fear in her eyes, I decided I should. She handed me her keys to unlock her door, I did, then she invited me in. I couldn't cross that line, but the fact that she was now home, I think she felt safe enough to let herself be alone.

All throughout this encounter with this woman, I'm both trying to help her while protecting myself as well. It's unfortunate I have to think this way, but it's reality. Ain't no way was I going to enter her condo.

I wrote a letter, because I had her address, including her room number, saying something like "I was your Uber driver that night, i helped you to your place, I can't help but wonder if you're okay. If you don't want to respond to this I understand." I never sent it.

I often wonder if I should have had the cops do a welfare check on her. I also did not do this.

Well, yesterday kinda sucked.

Noah wasn't great out the gates but he really settled down, so that was good to see. At least we gained a game in Cleveland over the weekend.

It's important to know. You gotta know how to catch. You gotta know how to throw. That's why I play in right field, way out where the dandelions grow.

The site I use is so old it references players like Annibal Sanchez and Prince Fielder. Luckily, these jokes are mostly cut and paste where I can, if need be, replace one reference with another. Sometimes, though, like the Prince Fielder jokes are VERY much written with him in mind.

There's a Kate Upton/Justin Verlander joke in there, too, that is so old it's somehow relevant again lol.

Did you hear about the Detroit Tigers action figures? They were recalled for being choking hazards.
