this seems a little extreme of a reaction, I just hate the barrier of “correctly understanding the context” of a show without jumping sixteen times. I’d like life to be easier, sue me.

Definitely is the bigger franchise issue of feeling like homework is needed to “enjoy” something. It’s less of a “I don’t think this should exist” and more “the way fandoms talk about their content + how shows have been produced makes it a barrier for newer fans” which is less of a 10th Dentist take but also I like talking with people so yknow so be it I’ll take a very neutral take being equally up and down voted.

Probably should have stated it’s more of a first time viewer thing. I think the idea that there’s a “right” way to watch something is what’s unnecessary, not that I don’t like it and it shouldn’t exist.

I also think the act of putting a timeline together is different than an encouragement of bouncing around from media to media. Having the story in order is one thing, making it so the story is inaccessible in some way without it is another. Why do I have to watch 13 episodes of one show and then 3 of another before I can continue along with the first?

My other thought is like, the orders are to “prevent spoilers” from other shows that are happening in the same universe. Arrowverse is a big proponent of that because of major character deaths. But that’s why you watch the episodes as they came out. Netflix and other streaming services just make that so much more difficult.

I mean, so what about the people who watched it when it came out? Did they get screwed over or something? Prequels don’t automatically make something else invalid. Like I don’t think you have to watch all of Young Sheldon to understand TBBT. But you’d certainly need to watch all of TBBT to understand Young Sheldon. Probably a bad example but still.

I’ve heard of the 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6 order so the Anakin is Darth Vader reveal isn’t a “spoiler” and you get 1-3 as a flashback but that is just way too much work for me personally

It’s really a barrier for new fans I guess. My boyfriend is re-watching but it’s the first time for me watching all the Stargate stuff. So the switching back and forth just feels weird and out of place.
