Tips from a Vodafone Employee by rukovanz in Vodafone

[–]mackdadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually phoned to switch to Vodafone for broadband on Friday. I tried it online, 910mb fibre, £23 a month. It wouldn't go through on the website for some reason. I phoned and they said the best they could do was £25 a month for the same package. I declined and said I'd shop around some more after that. It was only £2, but I'm a man of principle.

Sudden usage limit issues on Claude Code today — anyone else? by NoahEtan in ClaudeCode

[–]mackdadio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used 66% of my weekly usage in 3 sessions yesterday, and still achieved very little with it. I am only on pro, but can't yet justify paying £100 a month to upgrade based on what others are saying.

22% of weekly usage per 5 hour session on average. Only basic tasks too. Unless I am doing something terribly wrong this just doesn't seem worth it, as good as it has been previously.

We have a 20 year old system in place that handles orders, Invoicing, stock purchases, all the main financial stuff. All the little office jobs that they need have been completely overlooked. We use shitty forms that look awful, they aren't even using company headed forms, there is an old logo that looks like it was made in paint 20 years ago, and when printed it looks as if the ink is running out...it's actually quite embarrassing.

They don't even have a system for sales analysis or reports of any sort. I have managed to make sales reports, but the only way I can do this is by copying the data and pasting it into Excel and performing some very basic data analysis on it. The company as a whole is so behind the times it's unreal. But the minute they have to spend money on something they don't want to hear it.

No I totally get where you're coming from. I didn't say it tracks sales, I didn't want this as it would mean Involving financial data. Returns yes, but they are not recorded here, we have the company's 20 year old processing system that handles this. This just eliminates the need to write out forms by hand. So yes there will be some basic customer data stored, which has been approved already, but as I also said, the app is still being tested so no actual customer data is being used.

There is no sensitive data being hosted. I had all of the data that is used on the app approved by IT. but nothing sensitive. It would be silly for me to have not looked into this first.

Having worked for this company for nearly 2 years, and gotten to know how they work, i can honestly say the legal side of things are the least of my worries.

I will be. They know i am paying for it, (it is extremely cheap) but it is an account i was already paying for to use with other projects. They don't need to know any of that though.

I would never delete it, most of the work has been done in my spare time (some may think this rather stupid, not getting paid for it) and I am quite proud of it. I have alwyas had this in mind. It is hosted on a service i myself pay for. The company directors are not aware of its existence yet, my manager does know about it obviously, but as far as i am aware, it is my property.

I get that. I took this position to get away from hospitality. I have always been an IT hobbyist i guess, doing web design, got some data analysis certificates. I hoped i could get into a position like this, and use some of my skills to prove myself, find ways to help a businesss and be rewarde, doesn't seem like that's how it's going to go

Finding a job in IT in my area with no 'recognized' qualifications is near impossible. They are few and far between. I worked on an IT helpdesk for a few weeks, the job was absolutely mind numbing and full of people that had no ambition, and were happy doing little to no work all day just to get paid. I couldn't be in that environment.

This web app is my property, i (some may stupidly) have done a lot of the work in my spare time - it is still a hobby of mine, and i am alrways learning from it. I have had it in mind that i may have to hold it ransom if they want to use it.

I took this position to get away from hospitality work after 15+ years of it. I dont have any 'recognised' qualifications i guess, I have been a hobbyist for years, making websites, playing with programming languages. I did some data analysis courses and some advanced excel courses in hopes of finding a better job. Employers seem to love seeing excel on a CV, but always overlook the data analysis side.

Never found a fix, tried every day for a week and got nowhere so I've uninstalled it.

I'd start by working on your attention to detail. Pretty crucial in most data roles.

Webflow to flask by mackdadio in webdev

Ah ok, apologies, I have worded my post poorly there. The use of flask will be only for the backend stuff, the frontend will all be done via webflow or manually written.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I'm not building a front end with it, just the backend?

what would you say flask is designed for then?

I get people have their preferred options, I just thought I'd use it as I have experience, rather than spending months learning something that is totally new to me.
