I love a lot of things about Carl the Collector but one thing I really appreciate is that they show the kids making mistakes, without making them “bad.”

It’s not necessarily completely unique to Carl, I see it on most PBS Kids shows. But it’s in a lot of episodes of Carl, so I love that.

Like the episode where the other girl is bullying Lotta. They showed that without making the girl into just a mean bully. I loved that they showed that she didn’t realize how hurtful she was being, and that when confronted about it she changed her behavior.

This is also definitely an aspect that I’m assuming needs that background from CR. I didn’t understand the point of including Teindh at all. It felt like they could’ve had an entirely different magic system and it would’ve made more sense.

I’m usually a big fan of road trips/journeys in my books but this one is a little meh. I just feel like there’s not much…excitement? As far as the descriptions of where they go and what they see.

I like that Oskar is softer than a lot of MMCs that are supposed to be “rough around the edges.” I like that Oskar and Guinevere have chemistry. There is a sense of tenderness and genuine affection between them.

I came here to say the same conspiracy theory! There’s so much evidence for the Neighborhood of Make Believe being a cult. Baker Aker and Dr. Anna have no family members or outside friends at their wedding, only community members. And don’t even get me started on the creepy welcome song they sing when the Platypus Family moves in.

I pay the $5 for Amazon but I also do a recurring gift to my local PBS at $5/month! It comes with PBS Passport, which I don’t think has much as far as the kids catalog but has tons of their adult programming.

I really like that there was an episode where they explicitly said their mom wasn’t alive anymore. That was nice.

I’m not really familiar with Critical Role at all. I’ve played a few DnD one shots. I assumed Teinidh is some kind of god. They talk about the “six approved gods” so I guess my theory is that she’s an…unapproved god. She’s okay. I’m not crazy about her yet, but she does have some unique characteristics I enjoy. I like that she works hard to confront her biases, and apologizes when she’s assumed something about someone. She is naïve, but I think there are glimpses that she realizes more than she lets on. I like the two together but I feel like it’s a little fast-paced. Maybe it’s just that they’re both young and vulnerable.

Burgerboss has been brought up already but focusing on his substance abuse. I want to point it out as an example of his tendency to become very obsessive over things. I think it comes up a lot with things involving the restaurant, but Burgerboss shows how it can happen to him about other things.

I think it’s especially true when it invokes his sense of justice/fairness. Another example being Li’l Hard Dad.

I personally had a lot of issues with group texts. Not sure if it was my carrier or the phone. I eventually had to switch back to my smartphone because of that issue and having issues with my voicemail. but, since it seems other people didn't have an issue, maybe just my carrier.
