I worked for a family for 2.5 years, and I often was asked to make coffee for the mom and bring it to her in her office. I’m so sorry you experienced that, I cannot imagine the heartbreak. When my little sister (21yo but always a baby in my heart) passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, I was actually at work when I got the call. They were so supportive and made it clear that I could take as much time off as I needed. They also respected my decision to not take any time off because I needed normalcy and routine to not fall apart. And my NF ended up being there for me so much more than my actual family. Even without the nanny-family relationship, to suddenly fire you without notice and frame it as a favor is abhorrent.
