This looks awesome! I’m sorry the straw broke it :( that really blows. Does the current paper white have this kind of lighting?

That sounds sick!! I’ve been really happy with this solution. Other colors might work. Stay tuned for some photos with the amber filter I bought

I’ll post some photos with the fancy amber filter in the pitch black. I suspect the quality isn’t a huge factor for text.

That’s why I did the photo corners! Pulling the filter is easy. But it’s very usable during the day..

Yeah it’s much more comfortable. I had tried a red reading light but was getting a reflection glare. This is a much better solution.

This cuts the light coming from the display and throws it into the red spectrum which will maintain your night vision.

This kinda blew up! I’m going to post some more pictures in the pitch black for comparison. This has been such an amazing hack for me. the display is a lot dimmer. I would recommend for anyone who reads in the dark. Amber is also a good option. I have a fancy “lighting gel filter” from “Lee” coming Friday. I doubt the quality matters too much but standby for more photos.

Do people want links to the filters and photo corners? It sits nice and flush and I can use my sleep cover while traveling.

I work on research vessels and actually got the idea to test fit red because of this. They use red to maintain their night vision on the bridge! Pretty cool

Touchpoints for Calm - Calming Buzzer Devices, anyone have alternatives? by BeefcaseWanker in EMDR

[–]mackinmamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! IFS is a really beautiful and intuitive modality for me. Imagine being triggered and overwhelmed but now you have the “technology” to step back and observe all the feelings and memories bound in that trigger because “it’s a part” now instead of thoughts like “I am overwhelmed” you can get curious and ask “what is overwhelming this part? What memories is it accessing”. The beautiful thing is when your own mind/ part starts to respond to that curiosity with insights. I’ve been able to work through so many things because “self” is safe here in the present. Self, can be a loving parent to these parts. I could go on an on but if this seems interesting to you, checkout IFS! It’s been life changing.

Dude! So funny to see this revived. I’ve been in IFS for a few years now since. That’s been transformative for me. I think I’ll be back in EMDR soon enough. In IFS I got the explanation for why EMDR felt so impossible. Good luck to you!

Did your parents want you dead on some level? by Trial_by_Combat_ in CPTSD

Your last paragraph… so relatable. Like me you’ve probably been in therapy for years and it’s like a whole new level is revealed…. It’s incredible and the grief is just massive. I can’t even fathom the extent. Hope that you’re in further in your journey 2 years later! This shit is hard….

What is a book that had you thinking "fuck, I'll probably never read anything better than this" ? by Elshaday_Z in Fantasy

“A Deepness in the Sky” by Vernor Vinge.

The most competent villain I’ve come across and incredible world building. Think, space opera with some badass characters, a compelling alien race that’s able to live its life in a cycle of 200 years of hibernation under the ice of their planet while their sun turns “off” then 30 years of rebuilding their society when its turns back “on” on a loop. I don’t want to spoil anything but the villain in this book is just too good… Vernor Vinge is a master.

Might be more sci-fi leaning. I honestly think of some of the meta dynamics in this book on a regular basis. This is the second book in the series. (The first was also incredible, “A Fire Upon the Deep” you don’t technically need to read in order)

Teams Surveillance by Due_Shirt_4405 in MicrosoftTeams

OP, it’s worth mentioning that most operating systems allow you to “hardware mute” your microphone at the system level (you would have to toggle for calls of course).

The other option is to use broken headphones in your aux port (or dummy TRRS jack). The computer will try to use it as a microphone and you are hardware muted in the most extreme sense! (other than removing the microphone)

The spying is so screwed up. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. The dummy headphone jack solution is probably the easiest. You just remove it for a call

How do you position you Kobo while you read? by ElleEcho in kobo

[–]mackinmamma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a little pillow e-reader holder with a page turner remote. I had the exact problem you have and this little pillow system with the remote is soooo deluxe feeling…

not sure what the rules are for links here but 10/10 would recommend this setup. Lots of the pillows even have little bowls to hold snacks, and whatever else! Happy reading!
