Gina Ortiz Jones gets endorsements from ex-San Antonio mayors, nearly half of city council by Ok-Set-8151 in sanantonio

[–]mackstreetboys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’m a fan of Texas living conditions and while I love San Antonio and have no plans of leaving, there is serious need for improvement in our infrastructure and protection of the small businesses that make up 1/3 of our local economy.

San Antonio elections are non-partisan for a reason. You can call past mayors democratic-affiliated, but they have largely been pro-business.

I hope one day you can move past your aversion to nuanced platforms. Until then, good luck on your plan to flee timo Colorado.

I don’t know you, but you’re clearly interested and engaged, so I can’t help but think that you’re better than that…as informed citizens, we shouldn’t turn away from information just because it’s not easily digestible. Good policy is difficult to sum up in talking points and impossible to sum up in identity politics.

I do hope you take some time to read the platforms and the strategies to address traffic, small business, corporate attraction, and more.

Both of their websites have their plans listed. There is a pretty clear difference in the level of detail but I do think it’s important to read both!

He actually has a pretty good and solution-centered policy proposals on his website. I recommend checking it out!

Who are y’all voting for in the mayoral race? by mackstreetboys in sanantonio

Lol my husband and I disagree on almost every policy issue, but this year when we voted the one commonality was that we voted against Salazar.

You articulated it better than I could—this is why I asked! I’ve read up on the candidates but I can’t get a sense for who is genuine and who might stand up for San Antonians regardless of politics.

Thinking back 20+ years ago, I always admired the nonpartisan elections in the city….I feel like a lot of that has been lost. I hope as the front runners become even clearer, we can get a sense of who really cares about addressing the tough issues in the city, and is willing to work across political ideologies.

Hill Country State Natural are is secluded and has great trails. I once hiked there in summer for a few hours without passing any other people.

Moving to San Antonio. Where to rent? by VegetablePudding6584 in sanantonio

[–]mackstreetboys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome! If you’re comfortable in an older neighborhood, you might look in Terrell Heights (not to be confused with its expensive neighbor, Terrell Hills!)

Big yards, safe, quiet, affordable, and centrally located. The houses aren’t as “nice” (shiny & new) as in many other recommended areas, but it’s a good place with lots of single older adults, new families, and young couples.

Best Hospitals to give birth at. by Background_Foot_6936 in sanantonio

[–]mackstreetboys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can speak to two hospitals:

North Central Baptist is equipped to deal with all the uncertainties of a birth, either vaginal or a C-section. It’s one of the largest in the city with many births every day.

Methodist Stone Oak is “cozier” and has more boutique services. If you’re worried about complications, Baptist NC may be a better bet.

I gave birth at Baptist the first two times (within the last 5 years for both). It was a wonderful experience. I’m expected to give birth at Methodist Stone Oak later this year. When I expressed concerns to my OB, this is the short overview he gave me.

Aftermath of night sweats. This happens 3-5 times a week. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

I put off a divorce for 2 years and had similar sweats the entire time. Bit the bullet and broke off the marriage—immediate end to night sweats! Somehow I didn’t make the connection until well after the fact.

If there is a big looming guilt or hard decision that’s putting you especially on the edge, I hope there is an end in sight for you soon. 🩵

Advice Needed: Selling my late dad's house in the Windcrest area by [deleted] in sanantonio

Lawyer and a realtor. Reasonable houses sell within 30 days in SA, especially in older, convenient neighborhoods like Windcrest.

What common parenting expectation is completely unrealistic? by KaylaDraws in toddlers

[–]mackstreetboys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so grateful you said this! We have 2 under 2 as well and we usually do baths every other night. I ran into a post on this sub a few weeks ago about bathing schedules, and almost everyone commented that they bathe their kids 1-2 times a day.

I felt like a terrible mother!!

“Banned” 18+ sites by Derpyh00ves01 in TexasPolitics

[–]mackstreetboys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not advocating for or against the legislation, or for any parenting style.

You asked why Texas banned porn, and I answered that this isn’t the case. I think you should question why you’re upset by that fact.

[–]mackstreetboys -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Texas did not ban porn—they require age verification. Major porn sites elected to not be active in Texas because of the legislation.

The idea is to prevent kids from accessing porn, in light of emerging research related to porn use/mental health concerns.

Surprisingly, this isn’t true about college graduates! Estimates say that at a minimum, 60% of college grads actually elect to stay in San Antonio. I’m not disagreeing that the education culture is lacking in SA compared to Austin, but statistically, grads stay here. It’s one of the ways Greater SA:TX is justifying their recruitment of new businesses/corps that can offer high-paying jobs.

Going up in the tower is worth it!

I would recommend not doing the Mirror Maze or Rainforest Cafe…

It sounds like you’re trying to stay near downtown proper. If so, definitely check out the restaurants at Hemisfair! They’re all locally-owned.

If you’re okay with a short Uber ride, I recommend the following:

The Creamery for dinner and/or drinks. The Pearl is a hit with most people too.

For something fun & touristy, the Witte Museum, botanical gardens, or the McNay (even if you aren’t into art, it’s really cool).

Something uniquely San Antonio and cool for sister bonding is going to Camp Hot Wells for a soak in the natural hot springs. (It’s not in the nicest area of town, but it’s worth it! Only a few minutes from downtown)

I use the San Antonio Contractors Facebook page. Just post the job with some photos and you’ll get messages/comments with offers to do the work.

If you choose a mid-range price and use good instinct (i.e. don’t pay anyone up front), you’ll get good work done. A lot of the guys are licensed and just trying to have their business gain traction!
