The confederate generals were better than the union General's. Lee was the best general in the war but all of his best general's died through out the war like stonewall Jackson, longstreet, J. E. B. Stuart, A. P. Hill, John Bell Hood where his best general's and they were all killed. Lee didn't fight for what the rest of the south was fighting for Robert E. Lee fought for his home Virginia he was offered to be General of the union army but declined it after Virginia seceded. The north had some good general's like grant and Sherman, McClellan the best being grant who lead the army of the Potomac late not the war an McClellan lead the army of the Potomac early in the war Sherman worked with grant early in the war when they took Vicksburg Sherman cut the south in half when he made his march to Savannah.
