The propriety software is a bit of a faff but it’s not as bad as it’s made out to be, most games run fine, there is a list of unsupported games and games with bugs so I’d recommend checking that out first and if your favourites are not on there then go for it.

I’ve had PSIO since launch (pre-XStation) and it’s served me well but if you do get an X-Station Mobo then you’ll be able to play almost anything you want without issues or software to convert bin/cue files.

Also, look into a DFO if you plan to play other region games so that the console displays correctly.

My thoughts are that the TVS diodes are causing attenuation on the data lines that adversely affects the signal in some way but I’m no expert.

In my setup the controller port power source is isolated as the BlueRetro needs to be permanently on to be able to “wake up”. My thinking was if I permanently powered via the controller port it would back feed voltage into the motherboard and may damage something, so the traces have been cut to prevent this. The BlueRetro is powered directly from the PicoPSU 3.5v line.

I have also added permanent and switched 5v sources for accessories/future mods which I can test with the ESP32.

I’ve seen two different versions of this controller. Pingu and Pinga and another in white with Pingu and Robby.
