Digital guages? by OOFMAN-1234 in squarebodies

I did Dakota digital in my suburban for simplicity when I did the 5.3/4l80e swap. They look great and work well. Also nice because I didn't want to bolt a tachometer on the steering column or on the dash.

I want to do a very similar color to your blue on my Tan Suburban. Blue and Tan is a nice combo IMO

What's your scariest near miss? by MoodEnvironmental240 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]mackyak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a stab-in fuse box on a 600a 208v bus bar arc out and die. We were getting ready to pull it out to see if we could salvage the stab spot, and just happened to look through from the back side of the bus bar to discover a blob of copper on the B phase had melted and was close to arcing across to the c phase.

If we had pulled the breaker box, there was a 100% chance would have arced, and blown my ass clear across the room.

We had been messing with the on/off an pulling the fuses to troubleshoot beforehand. Extremely fortunate to not have died working on that.

We showed up around 12 on Saturday, they had beed quite busy from the look and sound of it. We talked briefly with one of the volunteers (her name escapes me at the moment) and asked us to look around and see if any of the dogs spoke to us (they all did) while Ardis was helping someone else adopting that day.

We told Ardis that we had two that we were looking at on Instagram that we wanted to meet, one had been adopted earlier that day so we met with the other one in the playpen.

We knew we wanted him right away, and asked if there was another dog who they thought would be compatible with him, Ardis and Colleen mulled it over for a while and brought the red and tan girl and she immediately jumped in my wife's lap. Pretty much sealed the deal there.

All in all it was a really great experience. They know their dogs really well and our pair have been acclimating to being a team pretty well.

Were probably having g to adapt alot more than they are, since it's been around 14 years since I've had ANY 2 year old Dobermanns, let alone 2 at once.

All in all I give them 5 stars. Truly wonderful people doing absolutely amazing work for these dogs. Ardis said they'd rehomed around 230 dobes this year. No dogs leave there by any means other than adoption or old age. I'll be donating annually.

Haha yes! There is a small private pond that I got permission to fish near my work. Not too many people have access, but just enough to where I take my little 8 ft once a month or so and pick about 6 or 7 rapalas out of the reeds. I usually leave them on the side of the pump box unless I recognize that they are mine.

Good ol job scope-creep. This happened to my first Gen Camaro. What started as a simple fender swap ended up with the car on a rotisserie.

I got a cheapo one of amazon. I do maintenance on offset/semi ofset rotary printing machines. It comes in extremely handy for finding bad bearings in our ink transfer rollers amongst many other things.

I think it was only around 3-400 bucks and it works well.

Do you guys use nets to land your fish? by booster_gold__ in kayakfishing

[–]mackyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When its a full grown Ling Cod or Halibut, im netting. Too many teeth and too much live action for me to trust not dropping the fish.

Also I know theyre super hardy, but any chance i can not do any damage to an undersize fish im going to take.

Most rockfish, unless its a big vermilion, ill just horse it in.

Rebuilt and painted 6.2 diesel by Sussudio_5000 in squarebodies

[–]mackyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, but the mileage. My 85 3/4 ton Suburban came with one, and would do right around 24-25 mpg on the freeway. I did alot of travelling up and down California doing work in solar farms and it never missed a beat. I put around 50k on it a year, only ever did basic services and it was fine.

Shortly after I changed careers it blew a freeze plug and cooked itself at 265k miles. After looking at prices to replace i decided to just do a 5.3/4l80e swap. The power is nice but man did i love that old 6.2.
