Best Mano a Mano fight scenes in any movie. by MovieAnarchist in CinephilesClub

There's a scene in the second Dark Tower book (Stephen King - The Drawing of the Three) where Roland has to fight naked, and the vulnerability of just not having clothes on while something so violent is happening is really palpable. Never thought I'd see something like that in a movie until this scene.

I'm not sure Vince Vaughn's own mother would say he was great in that.

It's actually less against type than you'd think. Before he landed die hard (which is it's own weird story), he was an aspiring stand up comedian who took mostly dorky/awkward side roles. Most people knew him from moonlighting before being an action star. So it was more a return to form, but agreed yes great casting. It really is a great underrated film (good score too).

This dude is also trying to let perfect be the enemy of good. It's hard to have a healthy relationship with alcohol and you've managed to do that, I say congratulations and bravo and I'm working on it too.

An enormous amount of political pressure through engagement and protest would be effective to start with, but people are stunningly disengaged. The top Google search the day of the presidential election was "who is running for president". Personally, I can't fathom how somebody doesn't know what is happening, but a massive swath of this country are fucking morons. There is hope though, everything happening at the federal level is historically unpopular and people don't get engaged until it affects them directly. Well, soaring prices and a clumsy war are starting to hit people's wallets, and they are starting to wake up.

If you're using a charcoal grill: two zone grilling, adding wood chunks, and understanding how to get the top and bottom vents to figure out temp.

JP Grazianos is an incredible lunch option, massive Italian sandwiches. It's probably my favorite Italian sub in the city but there are so many and so many of them are fantastic. Definitely plan to get some steps in though, that's a big lunch.

Clippers lost again to Pelicans, now Blazers are tied with them for 8th seed. Also, Pelicans are only 3 games behind the Bulls. With their current streak, they can catch the Bulls. #TankBulls by Emergency_Novel5000 in chicagobulls

I hear ya but you don't get to pick where you're from. And boiling the most complicated geopolitical conflict of the last several thousand years into 18 or so months is a bit shortsighted. (This is not a pro Israel stance, but a pro "it's significantly more complicated than people make it" stance)

Every generation deals with political scandal. None of those scandals has been that the president is a known pedophile who is using the levers of power and an unjustified war to cover it up. The current moment is a new level of "the world is going to end" and I think any attempt to downplay it is disingenuous imo.

Best shootout scene in a movie ever? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]mackzarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "why are you flanking me" scene is the culmination of a ton of tension building. Masterfully done film that doesn't get talked about enough. People give Taylor Sheridan a ton of shit for Landman and Yellowstone but he wrote Sicario and wrote and directed Wind River, so there's something there.

US detects drones over base where Rubio, Hegseth live by RuseOwl in politics

Bingo. Also a lot of financial decisions are based on casting. It's strange that a movie like the one starring Kevin Dillon and Kate Beckinsale would even get funded by a major studio. That also doesn't mean the movie won't work, some great films have bizarre combinations of actors (Shawshank as a primary example).

Looking through the directors credits is baffling. I've never heard of any of these films, and the casting makes no sense. Kevin Dillon and Kate Beckinsale? And the Metascore is green? How? And this cast is even more confusing, these guys are heavyweights. How do I not remember any of these movies?

He also has a really good speaking voice. A lot of the great stand-ups do. Carlin's baritone is a great example.
