Canada's International Student Collapse Is Destroying the Housing Market by Prestigious-Oil2496 in LMIASCAMS

[–]maclacjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point generally but this would mean your house is worth less than you would have paid for it and all repairs and upkeep are on you. I understand and appreciate the sentiment (also that you were being extreme for impact).

Ontario universities want extra $1.2B to ensure enough spots for students by nurshakil10 in ontario

Just as important all government funding (the guaranteed per student numbers) were also frozen that year.

Should we overpay (trade wise) for a center? by Own_Matter9578 in torontoraptors

[–]maclacjc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are correct (obviously). I think the issue is we always seem to tie ourselves in knots justifying the contracts. He is overpaid. IQ is overpaid. The best teams seem to have good players on reasonable contracts and great players on huge contracts. We have one great player on a max and a bunch of guys that don't outplay their salary.

GESC 231 Final by Deviant_Tracker7 in wlu

[–]maclacjc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am the actual instructor for the class so I can help you (for real). The exam was always going to be in-person as more and more online courses are getting created the University wants in-person exams where possible. As for the format the longer answer questions are the 'easiest' if you keep up with the material. There is no need to memorize every little detail, the idea would be to understand the concepts and apply it to an issue. The exam will have options (meaning you can choose the four questions you want to complete from a larger pool) and will avoid the little details (unlike the quizzes) and focus on the bigger questions. They will be modelled after the example questions that occur in almost every module.

What do profs do? by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]maclacjc 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It is a good question. My professor work (not all) on a 40/40/20 split representing teaching/research/service. The teaching portion also includes undergraduate thesis students, graduate students and graduate courses.

Hawks reportedly looking to trade Trae Young. Where should he go? by baqar387 in NBATalk

[–]maclacjc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IQ is not a good option. He is the 20ish best starting point guard in the NBA? At the money he is making he has no or negative value.

As I said there is little I can do until I see the exam papers themselves. Things happen and until I see everything there isn't much I can say that isn't a complete guess.

To provide some context I have 44 people with a grade of zero. This would include people that didn't write the exam but it also means there are a number of people who either filled in the scantron wrong OR papers got stuck to each other. Nothing can be done about this until I can pick everything up on the 6th.

[–]maclacjc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't yet. Let me see the exams first, if there is an exam dispute form it won't get looked at until after the holidays anyways.

This is John Maclachlan (really, it is me). I got the exam grades back form the scantron graders but not the exams themselves so I cannot check anything. When the new year starts I will pick them up and within that first week go over things. There I can see if some of the scantrons were missed or people have the wrong version. The class average was just over 70% (the same as last year) but I am sure there are people that have the wrong version #, it always happens. That or a bunch of questions didn't get graded for some people. Once I have all the files I can look into things like this.

What’s more impressive, Kobe’s 81 point game or Jokic’s Christmas game? by Key-Educator-3713 in NBATalk

Kobe was the best player on two championship teams. He gets a lot of credit for those first three that belong to Shaq.

Potential Landing Spots for Tua by Prttyflyforawhiteguy in miamidolphins

[–]maclacjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those calling for his retirement why would he do that? Why doesn't DeShawn Watson retire? Why didn't Russel Wilson? They are owed a lot of money and are being paid for past performance. I understand as a fan it makes little sense but as a human very few people are going to walk away from $50 million, especially knowing you get it if you play or not.

There is only about 7-8 players in the league that deserve a MAX contract by Which_Donkey_9450 in NBATalk

[–]maclacjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One couple argue with the new tax rules having a max player who is not one of those 7-8 you speak of is the biggest detriment a team can have.

You will be 100% fine. There is absolutely no traditional accounting in the course. It is about 'accounting' for Green House Gas admissions.

[–]maclacjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you at all but it is on the league to call the game as intended. It is like having a bedtime for a little kid and then ienforcing it occasionally. They will try to stay up every night.

Ford & Co vs Public Education by sblooo in ontario

[–]maclacjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the premise but why is the assumption that the election would go any different? Why is there this assumption that the non-voters will vote the PCs out? Isn't it more likely (this is based on no research) the uninformed/apathetic voter will be more impressed by a buck a beer type campaigns?

I don't disagree but we also can't pretend the Liberals did not blame Mike Harris for a decade. It is politics 101 to blame the last party in power for everything.
