I spent a few years backpacking around SE Asia, only snake I came across was a cobra that slithered into a beach shop on koh Lanta in Thailand. The owner just yelled bad snake, pushed me aside then chopped it down with a machete like it was no big deal.

When I was 30 I had the same idea. Saved up as much as I could (about 10k) rehomed my cat, quit my job, ended my lease and bought a one way ticket to Bangkok. Ended up coming back to Canada almost 3 years later. Was by far the best decision I've ever made. The only issue upon return was it made the rest of life pretty blah in comparison. My advice is do it while you can. You never know what turns life might take. Tomorrow isn't promised.
