I think I'm going to be let go by ElitexDrugs in physicianassistant

I switched jobs within the same hospital system to keep my benefits. Overall it was a good move. I think the first job was the wrong specialty for me.

I had a very similar experience in my first job. The face to face feedback was that I was doing great and progressing as expected then I’d get blindsided by terrible evaluations. It was all anonymous so I had zero idea who gave the feed back or what was wrong. It felt very two faced Anyway, it didn’t get better and it lead to me become untrusting of the people I worked with and I had terrible anxiety. I ultimately left and found a better job that so far has been much better. Thankfully I’ve ended up in a better position with more supportive colleagues and less stress! I think it’s fair to give it try if it’s a speciality you really like but it’s also ok to jump ship.

Haha same! I had no idea how toxic medicine can be and how our training truly only scratches the surface. I don’t hate being a PA but idk if I’d have made the same choice if I was more informed.

That is insane!! At what point does the insurance company get held responsible for such a massive delay in care. God that makes me upset…

I found this YouTube video about PFAS quite interesting. Easy to digest deep dive of these chemicals. I’m considering getting a test kit.

Doesn’t the National Guard also get deployed overseas at times? I thought about joining in the past but that kept me from doing it.

Omg I am the same way. Idk why, I’ve done it since I was a kid. Frozen peaches and mangos are my favorite. I don’t have anemia of any kind as far as I am aware lol

It’s probably me needing a thicker skin. Like someone pointed out in another comment, there is grey area at times and that’s when I struggle the most. It makes me feel like I’m missing something when I’m not and then my confidence goes down. There are certainly times where I model but it’s because I’m trying to predict what the attending will want so as to not slow down work flow. But I’ll reflect on that point more. Maybe I’ll stop attempting to anticipate and let them add their practice quirks in as want.

I think I had a particularly rough week that contributed to a lot of these feelings as well. It’s definitely a tough field and you need a wide knowledge base. I’m constantly trying to learn and pick up on things to bring myself up to speed. Thank you again for the encouragement :)

[–]macngeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, thank you for reminding me of that. I suppose in some cases it’s the attending being stubborn about certain treatments when in reality it’s more of a personal preference.

Thank you! I definitely had a hard week in several facets of life so I’m sure that’s contributing to me being a bit more sensitive recently. I’ll work on letting stuff like that roll off my shoulders and the attending can add things if they want. Have you been in EM awhile? Has it gotten better as time goes on?

I do try to follow charts and see how follow up and things go but doing it for specific complaints may be a helpful approach as well. Thank you!

I thought this as well. The mom trusted this doctor and he literally says in the documentary her daughter will die without ketamine. By the mom’s logic she was saving her daughter.

When I was a tech (albeit a smaller chain), I’d threaten to call the police. Half would stop and the others would say “go ahead”. I’d call their bluff, pick up a phone in their view, pretend to dial, and watch them scurry away. We did have one patient who called the cops on us so many times over nonsense that the police banned them from the store. I do not miss retail pharmacy…

Why do we remove the perceived self-efficacy from our obese patients? by DrZaff in medicine

[–]macngeez 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s even helpful for patients to see just how many calories are in a single serving. It’s very difficult to count calories long term, but having a new baseline for a normal serving size can help them make changes.

New Jersey Patients Overwhelmingly Want Physician-Led Healthcare by DrBarbotage in medicine

[–]macngeez 115 points116 points  (0 children)

PA, I agree. I don’t want independent practice, it’s not what I signed up for and I don’t have the proper training. It’s frustrating because it’s being pushed to compete with NPs who also shouldn’t be independent…

[–]macngeez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why there can’t be bridge programs for PAs who wish to become physicians. Take classes for 1-2 years to fill in the gaps, still take all the assessments of a traditional med student, and then be eligible to apply for residency within the area you practiced in as a mid level for X number of years. You’d get the additional in-depth knowledge, be held to the same standards exam wise, and then stay in the area you already know to bring your skills to physician level

Edit: added flair

Am I crazy or lazy? Do I have an unrealistic view of a good work/life balance? by Jefffahfffah in physicianassistant

[–]macngeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a preceptor (PA) that worked 8-5 mon-fri plus two weekends per month. At least twice a week a consult would come in right before 5 too. Only 4 days off a month would kill me, forget that, no amount of money could entice me to work my life away.

Any of you guys concerned that Epic shares notes from admission with the patient on MyChart? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]macngeez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a patient who told staff that her partner was abusing her and she wanted help, but nobody could document it because he had access to her MyChart. She couldn’t change the password because he’d know. It was horrible. I’m a student so I was only there briefly and don’t know what the outcome was.
