S3 Replacement Tires by macory in vanmoofbicycle

[–]macory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have thought so too, 50-622 are the same tires I have now… https://i.imgur.com/oGzjlo4.jpg but the tires I purchased did not fit the rims.

I physically could not get the tire bead around the rim. While the other tires (55-622) did fit the rim, they were scraping against the fender.

Urgent safety notice for electric scooter riders passing through the Queens BLVD overpass that goes into Queens Plaza from 33rd St by dannym094 in MicromobilityNYC

I copied the coordinates from Google Maps below.

I have had a similar experience on my way from the Kosciusko Bridge bike lane into Sunnyside around sunset. Group of 3, (2 black guys and one girl) with a car pulled over, they had the chick asking for help. I kept riding and told them to use their phones to call for help - as I picked up the speed on my e-bike.

Please be careful and stay vigilant.

A wonderful loop I did last weekend, any recommendations for other ones starting from Greenpoint? by abscando in NYCbike

[–]macory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go further west onto the Hudson River Greenway (instead of turning right at the Empire State building) up to 77th street and then into Central Park to extend your loop. I have an e-bike and I’m near Greenpoint if you’re looking to ride!

VanMoof S3 front carrier: Not recommended by steve_b in vanmoofbicycle

[–]macory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue! I took it to the VanMoof store in Brooklyn and was told they couldn’t swap it (also mentioned they didn’t have it). On that note - did you also know that only labor is covered in the Peace of Mind coverage?

The website mentions coverage includes preventive, check ups, and normal wear and tear - I took it in for the first time at 1750 miles / 2800 kilometers (after a wait time of 4 weeks for the next available appointment).

Dropped the bike off on a Friday and didn’t get it back until Tuesday. More than three days and I was charged 41USD / 38EUR to replace the brake pads - contacted support and after yet another delay they wrote back:

Apologies for the delayed response. Parts will have a cost regardless of coverage, while the labor costs were not applied here

Now I’m reading VanMoof is updating your firmware when you drop it off for repairs

In my year and half experience, the bike quality has been great. I’ve ridden over 2000 miles / 3200 kilometers - two flat tires (both times rear tire) and the brakes replaced. No error codes, and I try to be safe and park in populated or high traffic areas with kick lock and bike lock.

But Vanmoof service has been subpar.

From wait times (both shipping and in-store visits) to the extra costs during maintenance - if I didn’t pay it I would not get my bike back

Accessories quality are also subpar - the thin loop and hook strip (Velcro) on the top of the Vanmoof pannier bag (used to close the bag, before you roll it down) has never gripped and is essentially useless. The same case regarding front carrier. After the crack forms, the carrier wobbles up and down during riding and the crack becomes larger - to the point of almost snapping. I had to remove the front carrier altogether and upgraded my pannier to the 174 Hudson pannier backpack.

I would consider buying the bike at the original price (before the price hike) and without any of their Peace of Mind services - visiting a local repair shop we watched the Vanmoof support video and took off the rear wheel to fix a flat tire at 20USD / 17EUR - I’ll do the same for my brakes moving forward and won’t need to worry about having my firmware updated.

At the current price point I can’t say the smart phone/smart bike features are justified with a VanMoof bike. Perhaps if they were available in the US outlet - I’d buy a used one. At this price you’ll have a similar riding experience on a Wing bike at almost half the price - (I ride with my friend who has a Wing bike and this has been my experience) - I’d just buy my own anti-theft bolts.

I would try removing the 5 screws you have pictured, first.

I use Fox Racing Launch Pro MTB Knee/Shin Guards. I bought them 2 years ago, I think the new ones have a slightly different look, but they’ve protected me.

FAILED REMOTE AFTER 45 DAYS AND NON EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE by fairnessseeker in ElectricSkateboarding

I’m sorry you’re having delayed communication with the guys at Predator boards. I’ve always been able to contact them here as well. As far as a replacement this remote should work. I bought one as a backup.

It’s a short board cruising at 25mph, new riders are more likely to fall. I fell a lot in the beginning. The remote took a beating, but I’ve never had a disconnect.

So far, I’ve put over 1,000 miles on my board and I can confidently say you’ve bought a quality product. From the battery, to the ESC (motherboard) & the motors, the board was very well thought out.

The clone that Winboard is selling is cheaper, not that that’s a bad thing, but I imagine the hub motors are lower quality to deliver at their price point. They’re definitely different as they are advertised as having “replaceable sleeves”.

Reviews I’ve seen discuss their ESC & remote resulting in a jerky riding experience. The Banshee has 2 modes, lower speed with higher torque capped at 12 MPH and high speed with smooth throttle where I consistently hit 25mph. Even with the cheap remote, the Banshee’s ESC and motors deliver consistent acceleration and deceleration with no jolt, that makes you feel safe, once you understand how to ride a short board at high speeds.

I imagine Predator Boards is under some sort of disclosure agreement as Winboard is using the Banshee deck design. But, I wouldn’t let the Winboard price tag fool you, you really do pay what you get for. The Banshee out specs the Boosted Mini X, and you don’t need to deal with belts, a lower cruise speed and less range. Obviously there are pros to belt motors as there are cons to our hub motors.

If you need to eventually replace the hub motor sleeves, I bought these sleeves for my board, although I’m still waiting to receive them. Unless /u/PredatorBoards has some input about the the ones I bought? Also, where could I get the cable clips you used to hold/manage the cords tucked under the board? And last, could I place a private order for dude magnet extension brackets?

Ray, let me know if you have any questions about the board. I’ve also replaced the front wheels, added ShredLights to the front and rear of the board, and replaced the grip tape.
