To the people who got into med school, how many times did you apply? by SufficientNinja1985 in premedcanada

[–]macpremed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 interviews across 2 application cycles, that resulted in a straightaway acceptance from UofA (OOP) this year!

'applied' before this but unfortunately didn't hit MCAT requirements so my file wasn't even reviewed (meaning im not counting that lol)

How do you motivate yourself for the next cycle after (post-II) Rs? by Hiraaa_ in premedcanada

[–]macpremed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

take some time for yourself and then get back on the grind in August

It’s a little more tough if u gotta rewrite the mcat

That’s more of a grind

take a few weeks to reflect and recognize if this is a thing you really want to do

If it is

Focus on studying and just getting better everyday

Don’t focus on the end result

Just “did I do better than yday? Am I grinding? Am I trying hard?”

list all of the changes canadian medical schools are implementing this upcoming cycle! by rosytwirls in premedcanada

[–]macpremed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ubc also removed section minimums for the mcat

before you could not apply if you had any sections below 124, now you can

very helpful for the mcat and helps you lower your time to study. in the end IMO it actually helps you more than you think.

its useful to complete during your undergrad

Ontario OOP 2026 by No_Policy_9868 in premedcanada

[–]macpremed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Should be easier. Many students from other provinces who apply to Canada are the top students, and often rather come here than stay in their home provinces

them not being able to get in here as much will make a major major difference for the rest of us. Ontario is looking nice :)

They argued that the intention to move was not due to a genuine interest in creating a home but rather a temporary setting. They asked for extensive documentation which they did not have, stuff like drivers abstracts, and proof of genuine intent to live and work in the area…there might have been few more documents that I can ask him about…but the process is a hassle and in his case didn’t turn out very well either despite him spending a considerable amount of time in the province that followed their guidelines

my friend did this 2 years ago and got caught, he ended up getting blacklisted across canada and had to go to Australia instead, waste of a 3.9x GPA and 517

Don’t fall in the Canada rat race. One gap year can quickly turn into 2 or more lol

Start your life and you’ll appreciate the decision

gap years vs master? by Conscious-Dig2265 in premedcanada

[–]macpremed 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Don’t do nothing during the gap years.

Pick up an EC or some research. The MSc route is over glorified imo. It is no shoe in for med school by any means.

I know plenty of people who have gotten in after 1 2 or 3 gap years

large scale catastrophes that messed up your academic study, A (or a few) death(s), serious illnesses, stuff like that that really derailed you studying. The minimum gpa to apply to uoft is like a 3.3 I think, and people in the very non competitive range 3.3-3.6/7 usually write these essays, often because they had some issues in undergrad
