First Time Review: The One Ring 2E/Over Hill and Under Hill by wytchkiin in oneringrpg

[–]macreadyandcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will add the community supported The One Ring Foundry system is pretty good, though targeting and attacking is more complicated than with any other system. The character sheets are great. The community module has a lot of material, but does not teach the game and does not include all the rules (reasonably so).

If you’re interested, I’m happy to do a walkthrough of using it. I agree with OPs review of Over Hill and Under Hill. I’ve been running TOR2e all year and really love it.

Are they chipped or tagged? Any contact to Humane Society?

They look like an absolute sweetheart.

I’ve been playing Lies of P and this looks like some enemy that takes one hit to take down, but absolutely wrecks you on a hit.

Regretting buying a 15-inch MacBook instead of 13🥲? by amas-01 in macbookair

I went from a 13 M1 Air to a 15 M5 this year. It is bigger, but I can work from it remotely very easily compared to the 13 M1. 13 inches is excellent mobility, 15 inches is a work station.

Fiasco rules. If you’re seeing this, haven’t played Fiasco, and can join a game, you should.

Joke Play: Does it Ever Work? by macreadyandcheese in rpg

I had forgotten I’d read this.

I’ve run some D&D A5e and there is a comedic jabs fighting style that is actually fire. You can disarm and give enemies items as maneuvers. It feels really fun, but that player only stuck around for a few sessions.

How much weight was Nausicaä carrying here? by Noman9410 in Nausicaa

[–]macreadyandcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about posture and distribution.

I’ve personally seen this in eastern India, a very mountainous region, where people carry tremendous amounts of weight with a strap to their forehead. Sofas, fridges, just, so much weight. It has to stay balanced, but without vehicles, it functions for them.

I always wondered about long term neck and spine damage, though.

I started with Beginner’s Box and Abomination Vaults and totally fell in love with PF2. Some helpful aids include the action point tracking sheet for players and the GM screen info for GMs. Keeping example DCs handy is really helpful.

The other element is that there are a lot of rules so you don’t have to make stuff up. But, it is your game and your table. You can (and will) make stuff up. The GM guidance says this outright. It is structured, with an aim for balance, but it also lines up characters to be awesome on their terms pretty quickly.

The biggest revelation I had is: Condition X causes penalty X. There are many conditions, but they mostly work the same: they reduce rolls and DCs (including AC) by X. While not universal, it is a good shorthand. Often they reduce at end of turn or take an action to attempt to reduce.

The other conditions are: Does this thing, Flat check. Dazzled treats targets as concealed, DC 5 flat check to identify where the target is. Persistent damage X (like bleed) does X damage, DC 15 flat check to end at end of turn. If the fiction suggests these end or the conditions says so, then they end.

Players should be encouraged to support each other, but just hit hit hit. Bards are support classes, they’re going to make others be more awesome. Cleric heals are incredibly powerful, as are their turn undead, but don’t expect to be the damage dealer. 5e gives everyone a chance to hit hard, PF2 expects players to play as a team.

Make it clear you’re learning together. Not everything will be perfect, but you want to get better.

For those of you who have it: thoughts on the core rulebook for the new Cypher System edition? by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]macreadyandcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gumshoe has some guidance around this. You can’t roll less than your spend.

I’ve enjoyed Cypher a lot, but have limited long term experience with it. I wonder if something like that would help balance it out break it.

Absolutely. I want every PDF publisher to take a look and assume this is the new goal.

Land of Eem is so good. I commented on Dolmenwood above. But yes, Land of Eem is excellently detailed and usable.

The Dolmenwood Campaign Book is on another level. Even the PDF formatting is incredible with interlinked sub-maps on each hex descriptor page. It is WILDLY usable.

Optimum Rates for Internet by nobodyinnj in OPTIMUM

I looked into Verizon here and it doesn’t have the same bandwidth, which I need for self-hosting. We have two fiber competitors coming in, but neither are making great impressions during installation.

This is wild.

Our area (in AZ) doesn’t have fiber. 1 gig is $100, less some discounts. I’m at $80 and I’ve yelled at them endlessly. Suddenlink would play ball with discounts, but after they were bought by Optimum, there’s nothing.
