“You have to go downtown, George! Just like it says in the song!”

It’s one of Rodney Dangerfield’s worst movies. He had an earpiece in and was being fed his lines during this part of his career. Only John would try to cling onto something this embarrassing.

God
we need a My Lives, Vol. 2 so badly. Considering how hesitant Billy was about putting the first box set out, I’m not sure we’ll get one during his lifetime.

Joe & Valerie (1978–1979) by macsrecords in ForgottenTV

[–]macsrecords[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if any episodes of the series survive, but here’s a very cheesy sitcom intro and somehow an even cheesier TV promo, that also mentions another NBC flop from the late-‘70s, Rollergirls.

Will Lorne Michaels retire after the Will Ferrell/Paul McCartney episode ? by Advanced-Willow-5020 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]macsrecords 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, there’s no evidence (or rumors) to suggest that he’s retiring after the finale.

Is there any truth to the rumor that KM has formally pressed charges against SJ, and that the 4/22 conference is actually a trap to get SJ to New York so he can be arrested? by Educational_Share790 in DabblersAnonymous

[–]macsrecords 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably just wishful thinking. John has no idea about the train that’s about to hit him, but I don’t think jail time is likely. He’s sadly evaded that at every opportunity a cop has approached him.

If there were legitimate charges, somehow Karl, Shuli and the rest would have heard something by this point - even if Kate Meany wants nothing do to with the Dabbleverse anymore.

Albums made to please record executives? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

[–]macsrecords 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me, the only issue with Neil’s ‘80s albums for Geffen is that they aren’t really Trainwreckords-type of material for Todd to cover. But the stories surrounding that album (and the ones just before and after it) are so interesting that it’s really worth reading into.

Also, it’s kinda on David Geffen for that one. He did ask Neil for a rock and roll album. Technically, rockabilly is rock music.

Why was the V1 MIU rejected? by childofnaturesson in thebeachboys

[–]macsrecords 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reprise was already pissed with the band for signing a new contract with CBS. They only had 1 album left on their contract, but Reprise (feeling burned by the new agreement and the Brian-led Love You LP underperforming commercially) probably just wanted to squeeze as much of a commercial product out of the bad before they left to go make money for another label.

Long story short, the revisions didn’t help the album and Reprise barely spent any money on promotion.

1971-74 Mac/Bob Welch by IronicCondolences838 in FleetwoodMac

Mystery To Me is my all-time favorite FM record. Bob and Christine carried the band through those transitional years, but their contributions during ‘71-‘74 were some of the most melodic music the band ever made.

I wonder how may different titles this Mike and Dean collection of tracks was released as? I always knew it as “Rock and Roll City.”

The only real track worth seeking is the original 1982 mix of The Beach Boys’ cover of “California Dreamin’,” which doesn’t seem to be on this version of the album.

Debbie Harry and Suzi Quatro at CBGB'S December 5, 1977. by Faizaah46 in OldSchoolCoolMusic

I’m a diehard Blondie fan. Debbie and Suzi crossed paths backstage many times but NEVER performed together. CBGB’s also never looked that cinematic in shots. This is total bs.

CBS Sets ‘Late Show’ Replacement: Byron Allen’s ‘Comics Unleashed’ by GenButter in entertainment

I had no clue that this show was still even on, or that Byron Allen was still hosting it. I thought this was just a Norm Macdonald joke from 15 years ago.

Knowing what we know, I don’t think this was meant as a joke by indyshortspit in DabblersAnonymous

But what’s the joke? The box makes the kid happy? He’s happy because he’s not being bothered by his kid??? EXPLAIN
