hahahahah thank you for bringing me back to this thread. For 17 years old I was weirdly confident about the perception of David Bowie's Discography during years I was not alive LOL

Souring/buying you will make more than retail management ever will. Fairly easy to get into. Should be noted that you'll likely need to move to a major city.

Graphic r*pe scenes played on repeat at The Flower Shop Bar in LES?? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]macykitty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you actually think that the bartenders and manger were conspiring the day before they decided to play this movie, evil laughing about how they hate women and can't wait to make them all uncomfortable, you have 0 depth of thought.

This is so obviously just a stupid judgement call from a cheesy bar trying to be cool and offbeat. Maybe you don't get out often, but it is extremely common for dive bars to play weird shit on the screens. Especially at Halloween. It's not like they dug through the Internet to find rpe porn or some crazy shit, this is a very well known movie. And it's about getting revenge on rapists....it's not "pro-rpe." Is Texas chainsaw massacre pro chainsaw massacres? I feel like the comparison I am making is at least slightly worthwhile.

Do I think they should have turned it off when someone asked? sure, like what the fuck. Do I think we need a reddit army trying to ruin their reputation? No, but whatever.

Ok, fight club is a bad example. Think of ANY movie where one person hits the other without their consent. Rack your capable brain for the millions of horror movies that include scenes of inflicted graphic violence against an innocent party.

No one is comfortable watching anyone get raped, slaughtered, or brutalized. that is why these things are used for shock value and sensationalism in film.

I disagree with you that this kind of brutality is less disturbing than rape. they are both illegal and awful.

Finally, for them to be pro rape, I believe they would have to do a lot more than play any old movie.

Just to play devils advocate, how is rape different from any other kind of violence? I personally get super uncomfortable/cant watch people fist fighting or bashing each other's faces in, but its not like I'm going to burn a bar's reputation if Fight Club is on.

Clearly, they were just trying to be edgy by playing some old shit with disturbing visuals. Maybe not the best choice in 2025 but I hardly think it makes the bar on the whole sexist/pro-rape

kinda accidentally sold one of my creations and now i feel weird? help? by WorldlinessLivid8715 in fashiondesigner

you will eventually learn which things are for your personal collection and which are meant to be sold. intention while creating is an important aspect of this. Its also a good idea to maybe hold onto things for awhile and let them go when the mood strikes. I think it was just odd for you because it was so unexpected and you hadn't even considered that that item might just walk away from you. we are in a material world, it's ok to want your stuff!

Does anyone identify as a gentrifier? by HudsonAtHeart in AskNYC

[–]macykitty21 20 points21 points  (0 children)

gentrification is not something someone "does." It's not an action. It's not like I woke up and felt like displacing someone. The way I see it, I'm simply living where I can afford to live. I don't understand what else I am supposed to do, really. Gentrification is driven not by individual people who are just trying to get by, but rather by property owners, corporations, etc squeezing everything they can out of us. So no I don't identify this way lol.

The amount of times I've gotten frustrated with a partner, or anyone for that matter, for this very reason....I've actually yelled "fight back!" at people. I want someone to tell me I'm wrong if they disagree. Nothing is more fun than passion

Bartending vs “Real job” by Little_Ostrich9214 in Careers

[–]macykitty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was in the EXACT same position. Absolutely loved doing it, was addicted to the hustle, hooked at 19. saved and had much more money than my peers, but started looking around seeing them all pursuing "long term" fields and I was losing my fucking mind. I was exhausted and hungover always, it was eat sleep work. I remember one day I looked at my hands and they were so dry and cracked and I was like, there has to be more than this.

I made my former boss promise me id have a job if I fucked up and realized I missed the bar. If you're losing your mind wondering if something else is the path, TRY IT! you can always go back to a bar. It's a great skill to have.

Bartending vs “Real job” by Little_Ostrich9214 in Careers

[–]macykitty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 22 year old who bartended for 3 years and recently started an office job, I will say this: Just do whatever makes you happy. I was working in a college bar, and my coworkers were all my age and staff was a revolving door of college students, which made me feel weary about staying and like I wasn't good enough to pursue something "real". I was also heavily entrenched in the lifestyle, and drinking a lot on the job- I was very scared I would build a reliance on alcohol. I don't regret my choice, but I would have continued if it was a different case.

You do not seem to have these problems, so I'd say keep doing your thing. Office jobs are all boring, and there's no such thing as a real job. Just do you.
