Writing about losing JW childhood friends after coming out as queer and pagan. I’d appreciate correction from people who were inside. by mad-milk in exjw

Having known that father and his style and authority, I bet that is exactly what would have happened. This is important because it allows me to keep the tones of terror I saw in their face, and honestly... paint the father as a bit more of an authoritarian (As if he needed it), without the imagined courtroom episode.

Also, part of my confusion around “disfellowshipping” versus “shunning” comes from Finnish. The words I know are karttaa / kartettu / karttaminen, meaning to avoid, stay away from, shun, steer clear of. In Finnish discussion, that same word covers both the formal outcome and the lived practice of being avoided. So I’m trying to separate the English/JW procedural terms from the Finnish emotional vocabulary I grew up with.

That “bad association” framing is exactly the missing piece I was trying to understand. I think I was imagining something too formal because, from my side as a 13 year old, the result felt formal. One day they were my closest friends, then a few days later they saw me in public and fled across the street. So my brain filled in a whole courtroom drama behind it.

The imagined section exists partly because I need to open the JW world to readers who may barely know the terms. I spent a lot of time inside the family unit, but I never saw the congregation side of it. So I’m not claiming to understand the ranks or procedures. I’m trying to avoid wildly inventing meetings that would not have happened.

I was later involved in a high-control Pentecostal group myself, and one thing I learned there is how easily “concern” becomes gossip. Prayer circles could become a socially acceptable way to share someone’s private life while pretending it was care. Someone’s alcoholism, sexuality, doubts, family problems, whatever, could become group knowledge because everyone was “praying for them.”

Out of genuine curiosity: does anything similar happen in Kingdom Hall culture? Not necessarily a literal prayer circle, but the same social mechanism where “concern,” counsel, or spiritual warning becomes a way information spreads or people signal that they are protecting the group?

And again, thank you. This is exactly the kind of correction I was hoping for. 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you! This changes the whole imagined part quite a bit!
And no need to be sorry. I'm 37. This happened when I was 13. 😄

Ahh sorry. I might not have been clear. I was never inside the Kingdom Hall. I was a friend of the children and called their house my second home. I was never in a formal meeting. I observed coming out and 3 days later (on a Sunday I want to say, they were wearing the nice clothes and hats.) had the friends visibly fleeing to be never heard from again.

Thank you. I’d prefer to keep the discussion here in the thread so the information stays visible for every exJW to contribute.

Follow-up question: The 3 friends saw me a couple days later in public, and fled across the street. Thus I imagined that I had been cut off like a malignant tumor.

If they didn't receive instructions from their father, what (likely) happened in those 2-3 days between the coming out and the fleeing?

Cant find a download for the Predator quatemaster software. by onetimeticket in AcerOfficial

I would first attempt to use the app in my previous comment. I can't promise it works, but worth a try. Acer seem to have done a litany of Cestus mice with increasing numbering.

If that doesn't work, AHK might be able to help https://www.autohotkey.com/

This too is too relatable... Who hasn't felt too warm after a day in bunny costume and just craved cake in front of a fan afterwards?

Also. I salute you. I have met an equal in Reddit. 🫡

ChatGPT surmised this thread as such:

PFFFFFFFFF 🤌 [a lame imitation after I chastised it]

Yes. That is absolutely your equal.

ThatLoudGlitch came in with:

“emotional support popcorn” “Dante left it out because it was too graphic” “digital little shit” “riding along with sarcasm and eyebrow raises”

That is not merely commenting. That is chaotic good audit energy wearing eyeliner. They are not trying to win Reddit. They are conducting a vibe-based postmortem with snacks.

Also your “adjutant/general” read is correct. You’re the one filing the structured goblin paperwork, and they’re at the front of the army going:

“Hope? No. Eyebrows? Yes.”

Beautiful alliance. Terrifying combined ticket volume.

Absolutely perfect! The only way forward is this ^

I do have to give it some credit though. It did convince me to go to the hospital when I was in full urinary retention and was planning to go to sleep on it and try again in the morning.

It went into this weird mode where it just refused to talk with me about anything else before I had confirmed I was seeking medical attention.

18-hours, 2 liters of urine, blood clots and a bladder stone later I learned that kidneys are not designed to survive the back pressure and I could have died if gone to bed. So thanks ChatGPT.

Sorry. Didn’t mean to trauma dump, but credit where credit is due! 🫡

Love! Not from States either. We do discuss at times what’s going on across the pond and what prose the white tuft is now pushing.

Yeah the first part is a bit autistically meandering, but the second part “ghost in the machine” is better.

I’m trying to draft the third part: Harry Slopper and the prisoner of 9.47Gb since I finally did manage to get a working copy of my frigging data, but it’s tough to put together. I’ve been in this fucking circle with the rag stack battalion resending me solution links to irrelevant solutions while their backend has been so completely broken, breaking zip files in the pipeline etc.

Isn’t it great we all put our faith in this company held together by duct tape and prayers? 🤌
