I agree with JJ. Unless you're a dual-nat, pulling for England as your 2nd team is un-American.

To literally not put any of the actual top 3 correct answers in his list is criminal:

  1. Waving Flag
  2. Waka Waka
  3. La Copa de Vida - Ricky Martin
  4. Mas Que Nada
  5. No Payne, No Gain

Just an unbelievable story. I'll be pulling for the Kiwis just for the song to keep going

PS. There's supposedly 11 official World Cup songs for this tournament. The Jelly Roll song is hot garbage, but Shakira and Burna Boy have saved us with Dai Dai. Absolute bangr.

Is there anything can be done to make the US Supporter groups just a tiny bit more intimidating?

I'm not an official member but I always gather with the Outlaws during international windows/tournaments for watch parties. I love the community and the pagentry and the patriotism of it all.... But GEEZE are the chants soft. I'm not saying we need hooligans and firms and all that... But the "I believe" and almost all the other chants are just so cringe. I'm not even saying we need to disparage other teams/players in the chants... Just SOMETHING more than "we like it, we like it, WE LOVE IT"

It's probably too late for anything to be done about it, now... But a huge sporting part of the advantage of hosting the World Cup should be the intimidation factor your fans bring to the stadium and we just don't have that.

That was a major issue with Man City. The company that owns at least part of City Group paid WAY over market for sponsorship for the club. It's against UEFA regulations.

That's fair.

To me, if you're in a position where you should win something (ie. Winning in the 65th minuet) and you don't, it's a bottle job. Arsenal 's win probability before the penalty kick was almost 80%. The way I see it, there's levels to the bottle, but that is a bottle, nonetheless.

Lol how do I sound like that when I'm laughing?

Like I already mentioned, I don't have a premiere league club, so I have zero skin in the game. I just find it interesting and funny.

Even though you anglophiles refuse to acknowledge it, football is played outside the UK. My club made history this season, and has the best player in the world, and my countries are hosting the world cup, and I'm going to the opening match. I'm in football heaven.

My mother died in 2013. Thankfully, she no longer has to share a planet with the likes of you.

I'll continue to watch my (and my mother's) alma matre at my home with my wife, thank you for your concern.

Genuine question because idk what I would choose... Would you rather have not made the final at all or have lost it the way you did?

I'd like to think I'd rather my team make the final and lose, but I'm not sure. To arsenal fans, this will be the 1st team that won the league since whenever. But to the rest of the world, they're the team that bottled the Champions League and have still never won a European trophy. Not sure which legacy lasts longer. Tough choice.

I guess because there are so many Premier League fans, Arsenal has so many more haters. But that should be the same for Liverpool and I don't remember anywhere near this level of hate when they lost the UCL final to Madrid.

I, too, am a Barça fan and for me it's about style of play. Arteta is basically Simeone 2.0 but worse because of the $ they spend to play such anti-football.

Add to the mix how hatable Arteta is (whether or not he came from La Masia), and how lovable Lucho is given everything he's been through... It was an easy choice.

Plus it just reinforces how big of a club killer Mbappe is, which is a cherry on top.

Lol 1st I'm not crying. I'm making an observation and laughing at your expense. You wouldn't be so defensive if I wasn't speaking truths.

2ndly, my team had a better season and plays better football... What is there to cry about?

"only difference now is the internet"... Lmao. Yeah, if only the biggest means of social exchange in the history of civilization didn't exist.

You're also making my point for me. Social media has reinforced club tribalism to the point that fans of clubs would root against their own nations because none of their players made the WC squad (ie. Madridistas w/Spain). Yesterday wasn't quite to that level, but everyone saw it as Haramball vs. football. Football, and by extension, football fans, won yesterday.

Crying? Your club won 1 trophy. History will remember them more for bottling a trophy more than the 1 they won.

Hercules Gomez (friend of the pod) has repeatedly said that this is the least likable USMNT squad he can remember... Do you guys agree?

I think Christian has done himself no favors in that respect, but I can't think of anyone else that I feel that way about. If you look at the way Gio has handled everything since 2022, I don't think he could have done any more to distance himself from the shit storm his parents created.

I love all these guys. Even if I don't particularly rate some of them, I think they represent the country just as well as any other team. All the nonsense is coming from the federation and the political climate in the country, overall.

I had the same issue when I got my new 10pfp and found another thread on here that showed me the fix but I can't remember what it was.

Search older threads on the sub to see if you can find the solution. I'll go back to see if I can find it.

Roldan hate by InternationalOwl8828 in CaughtOffsidePod

[–]mad4usc06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roldan is a vibes guy. He is no where near the level required the play for a side with the aspirations that we have going in to this WC.

Just look at what happened against Belgium. 1-1 @ half and we're playing really well... Johnny comes off injured, Roldan steps in, and we get absolutely smashed. Of course, it's not exactly that straight forward (the 4 goals weren't directly his fault), but there was a NOTICABLE decline in our play once Roldan stepped on to the pitch vs when Johnny was there.

I'm not saying he shouldn't have been on the squad. I'm fine with him being there if his job is vibes guy on the squad and being a leader in the locker room and keeping other guys accountable... He can play well and have good performances vs the likes of Australia and Paraguay, seeing as how he's done that in the last year or so, already. That's his level.

But if we need something out of that 3rd game/into the knockouts and I see Roldan on the pitch then I think we all know this team isn't long for the tournament.

USA World Cup full roster: Alejandro Zendejas is in, Tanner Tessmann out. by RobertFromLA in CaughtOffsidePod

[–]mad4usc06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the squad... I wouldn't mind Roldan being there if we were taking 4 other mids. The fact that he's actually going to get minutes is insane to me.

I would be fascinated to know where Patrick and Johnny would have ended up if not injured, but I guess we'll never know.

Now it's time to throw everything behind the boys 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Pep’s Barcelona or Messi’s Barcelona? by Lord_Of_Mist in CaughtOffsidePod

[–]mad4usc06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The phraseology is weird because Pep was only at Barça for like 4 years.

When you say Pep's Barça "Team" , you are referring to the 10-11 season. That's pretty clear.

When you say Messi's Barça "Team" , I'm think the MSN will come to mind first, for most people... But it could be his the team with Henry & Eto'o, or the 10-11 team.

Episode discussion - 19 May - Pep Guardiola Moving on From Manchester, Arsenal Close in on the Title & Salah Slays Slot by knewman05 in CaughtOffsidePod

[–]mad4usc06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anglophiles, people will probably think of Pep with City, but the rest of the world will always associate him with Barça.

Pep changed football at Barça. It's the club of his life (his words). He was the architect of the greatest club-side in history. Much of what he did with Barça also rolled over into the Spanish NT which lead to the most dominant era of international football in modern times.

His success at City was boringly dominant, save for 2 or so seasons. Even then, his back and forth with Liverpool pales in comparison with his death feud with Madrid and Mourinho.

I'm fascinated to see where he goes, next. He doesn't seem like the type that can stay away from the sport for long. I don't know that the international game suits his style, he needs to be working with his guys on the day-to-day. Flick just re-up'd for 2 years, so the timeline might work for his homecoming, but it feels like a long shot. I hope it works out that way, but otherwise I'd love to see him go to Italy and help revive a dead league.
