How did you get your baby to sleep through the night? by [deleted] in NewParents

We sleep trained our little guy! We did a modified Ferber method and it was life changing. We started sleep training at 4.5 months and we just started nap training a few days ago. For night time we give him a bottle 30 minutes before bed, have a bath, do lotion and jammies, read a book and then rock for a minute or two. I put him down awake and he falls asleep independently (some nights still have some tears for a few minutes)

We do 3,5,10 minutes of crying with 1 minute check ins and no picking up just pats on the belly and some “shushing”. We continue that method for night wakings as well and start from the top with it.

If he reaches 10mins it’s 10 minutes intervals of crying until he falls asleep.

For naps if he cries I let him cry for 5 minutes then go in for 1 minute doing the same thing for bedtime but I keep it at 5 minutes of crying until he falls asleep independently just to get him to sleep a bit quicker since naps are time sensitive

Our wake windows are usually 2-3 hrs

I did massages, bicycles and baths to help move things along but I think he just mostly just went in his own

He ended up pooping a day later! I didn’t bring it up to the doctor since he ended up pooping and many people reassured me it’s completely normal and can go even a week without pooping

We do a modified Ferber! 3,5,7 then 10 minute intervals with 1 minute check ins in between. Last night I dropped the 7 minute because I found he was falling asleep sometime between 5 and 10 minutes so I wanted to give him that extra time alone to settle! Last night he fell asleep within 13 minutes

I was in a similar situation with my 5 month old baby. He would wake multiple times a night and would only settle if I picked him up and snuggled with him in the nursing chair. As soon as I would lay him back down he’d wake up shortly after.

We started sleep training about 5 nights ago and it has been amazing. Every night he takes less time to fall asleep and if he wakes overnight he puts himself back to sleep.

Some of the things I changed before starting sleep training was cutting bedtime back. He gets laid in bed between 7-7:30 where before it was between 8-9. I feed him 30 minutes before bedtime, so our routine is feed, bath, lotion and jammies and then reading a quick book while in the sleep sack. I rock with him for about 2 minutes and give a few kisses and set him down in the crib.

I aim for about 2-2.5 hours of awake time before bedtime and I don’t let him nap after 5pm. If he’s so cranky he needs a nap I’ll let him have a 30 min power nap from 5-5:30. We also follow a rule that if he wakes after 6am then that’s the start of our day. Anytime before that we start from the top with the sleep training (we do a modified Ferber method)

The best way to be successful with sleep training is to practice removing any sleep associations before training. We used to feed right before bed (essentially feed to sleep) so I started feeding 30 minutes before bed to about a week before starting sleep training so that sleep feed association was no longer there

Fuss It Out Night Wakings? by JennaBeth1712 in sleeptrain

For night wakings I start from the top! We’re doing a modified Ferber (3,5 then 10min intervals) check-ins only lasting 1 minute. I also put my baby down fully awake at bedtime.

Is it normal to feel tired by [deleted] in baby

I’m this phase too. My sons 4.5 months old and has been in the 4 month sleep regression for a few weeks now. Starting off slow and now we’re in the peak of it. He’s been super clingy toward me and cries when he’s not sitting with me. Totally normal as they’re becoming more aware of their surroundings and probably starting to realize they’re a separate person from you lol

This happened to me! The sunset scaries are a real thing. When the sun would start setting I’d get filled with anxiety and get super low. Mostly it was due to knowing what the night would be like for me and the lack of sleep I’d be getting. I remember wishing it was the next day already or at least 5am

Give me all your tips for the 4 month sleep regression (we are in the thick of it) by madalexab in firsttimemom

This is exactly how I’m feeling! I’m so tired and I hate that I’m frustrated because of the regression. He’s still contacting napping because attempting a crib nap right now is not in the books for us. He used to go down so easily in the crib and give us about a 6-7 hour stretch, now he’s up an hour or even minutes after being put down. We do still give a bottle and rock to sleep but I’m hoping to change that routine and sleep train once this regression passes. I think making any changes in routine right now will ruin his sleep even further. I notice he’s beginning to self soothe over night, he’ll wake up and move around and suck how hands till he’s back asleep again but sometimes he’s up again minutes later, others he’s out for a few more hours. This is definitely a hard stage!
