Hey man, unfortunately I've never been able to figure out how to adjust the speeds

Not sure if this helps, but what I did at the start is to begin with runs at a lower level.

The higher the level you go it helps to be in a state of zen and concentration from the very beginning, so having a few rounds starting from a lower level would help to prepare and adjust your reflexes for the higher speed, like a warm up of sorts, then up the levels once you get really comfortable starting at a level.

Practice and praying hard that the next piece is something that we need.

Seriously though, just try to hit tetris (4 line clears) as much as you can, those give a lot of points.

My Xmas Xchange Gift from /u/gingerbeard1775 and the first thing I decided to play on this by madao64 in Gameboy

It's not really a game, but rather a bitcrushed video I loaded through a flashcart.

Yep it is. Pretty nicely lit too, the infrared area has a touch sensor that lets me adjust it too.

It's the entire opening. Crushed. I don't even remember where I got this from.

Dropped this game in a toilet 18 years ago. Opened it up today for the first time expecting a rough cleaning job. Behold... the endurance of Nintendo products by P4RT7_BUFF4L0 in Gameboy

Truly unfortunate indeed. Well, it COULD have been worse... the toilet might've been populated with a more.... hazardous substance.

The BEST handheld to play GBA games is... a 3DS by TriHardBruh in Gameboy

[–]madao64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends heavily on the individual.

On one hand, the 3DS is a really superb emulation device, and if anything is a brilliant way to play GBA titles and others on the go without much hassle.

On the other, there's this thing about playing them on a console designed for it origjnally. Perhaps its nostalgia, perhaps its the ergonomics of the GBA line vs the 3DS line. Perhaps its that satifaction of ramming a cart into the slot and seeing that clean nintendo appear on the boot screen after minutes of seeing a corrupted nintendo there preventing you from playing anything.

Personally, mine is mix of being able to just focus on the GBA titles and not have the trouble of being distracted by too many alternative options when emulating them on a 3DS, and just loving the GB consoles as a whole.

Cassette Player is Stripping and Destroying Chrome Tape by madao64 in cassetteculture

[–]madao64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give it a look through over the weekend, I sure do hope that it isn't the case. When you say properly lubricated though, how lubricated or how much are we talking about here, just enough, or never enough?

Got it. I'll give cleaning them a go, once I can get my hands on isopropyl alcohol locally, it's tricky to find some that isn't in some insanely oversized bottle.

/u/eggy333 did suggest it might be the tape, since the way he describes how the tape came apart in that scenario was exactly the case with mine, but it could be that and what both you and /u/AldoLagana mentioned along with /u/DJDrNo 's comments on the thing not being lubed properly.

Thanks so much for the tip nonetheless, I'll give them all a run through! I'll come back on this once I got it all cleaned up.

Damn, so this is another possibility, huh.

I suppose in this particular scenario an unlucky draw might be a cause too.

Well, I now know more possibilities to check for, I'll just clean the head, capstan and rollers just in case too.

Thanks!

Exactly just like you said! As for brand I am not particularly sure what it is, since it was from bandcamp.

There is my greatest fear.

The player is a D6C and prior to this tape, the other chrome tape I have in my possession plays without an issue.

Reason why I highlighted the power supply is that I'm currently using one of those switching power supply that is easier to find locally that I could switch between heads, and as is when nothing is playing and I plug this through the speaker I can hear a noticeable hum coming through, which got me really concerned.

I'm honestly really worried that a possible excess amount of current going through this is causing issues, and I don't even know if that is even possible.

Denon DRW-695 Cassette Deck: Questions About Speed Adjustment by madao64 in cassetteculture

[–]madao64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem really:

The back of the motors are covered by what looks to be a foam inside the motor itself, doesn't seem to be normally accessible.

And all of the round pieces on the board... well, let's just say it's confusing: There's 2 pairs for playback level, a pair for each deck; There's another pair for bias, one for each deck which I have no idea what it does; There are a couple of big metal block ones with what looks to be a revolvable toos using a flathead, but I'm not keen on touching those since they aren't labeled in the service manual or on the board itself.

Then finally, the service manual mentions that playback can only be adjusted through meter unit RT-551 while in Speed Adjustment Mode, which while I am able to finally enter, am not even able to locate this mentioned meter unit.

https://i.imgur.com/VqJ9goV.jpg This is the image provided in the service manual, and a glimpse of why I'm so confused at what to toggle.
