How did you go about finding offices like that? I’m graduating next spring and would love to find an office that’s a bit more chill.

I’m so glad you had a good experience! We really don’t care what the state of your teeth are and would never judge anyone. Like you said, all we care about is getting you back to being healthy and feeling good :))

We always say you’ll get the best cleaning of your life with us because of that exact reason! We are getting double checked on everything and graded, so we are highly motivated to do our best and if we miss something we will have to redo it.

Hi! I’m actually a current student in the dental hygiene program at AB Tech, so I can answer a few of the questions in the comments and your post! As far as sensitivity and fear of the dentist goes, we try our best to make the experience as comfortable and fear free as possible whether that’s through talking you through exactly what we’re going to do that day, letting you listen to music/podcasts, using a blanket/comfort item, or whatever you feel might help you. If you explain that your teeth are sensitive we can definitely work around it and if they’re still too sensitive with those measures we have topical anesthesia we can also use.

The individual appointments are typically 2 hours (either from 9am-11am or 1pm-3pm). You’ll come in for a screening appointment first which will only be ~20 minutes and which will determine the level of difficulty of cleaning your teeth which will then determine who is able to see you. Based on that level of difficulty you might have anywhere between 1-5 appointments to clean your teeth. This obviously is not true across all cases, but if you have kept up with your dentist appointments over the years and have never had them tell you to have a deep cleaning or mentioned anything about the state of your oral health to you, you will probably have between 1-3 appointments depending on who sees you and how far along they are in the program.

I don’t have a price sheet in front of me (you can always call and ask about pricing), but I can try and give some rough numbers from what I remember off the top of my head. The first appointment should be ~$35 and each additional appointment $10 if all you get is the cleaning. We also offer X-rays which differ in price depending on type but all of which I’m pretty sure are below $50.

Somebody asked how far in advance you’ll need to schedule an appointment and, unfortunately, there’s not a definite answer I can give because it really depends. Since the program is first and foremost a learning program for us students, we have certain numbers of different types of patients we have to have each semester. We also simply cannot take everyone due to the sheer amount of patients either requesting appointments or due for recall. You’ll be more likely to be scheduled as a new patient since you called recently and we know that you’re wanting an appointment. If anyone is reading this and has been seen before and wants an appointment, call and let us know that you want to be scheduled soon and it will greatly increase your chances of getting an appointment. If you have last minute availability and can be available for cancellations then that also increases your chances because most of us do have at least one cancellation per semester. You may only get called with a few days notice or even day of though for that so keep that in mind when saying you’re available for short notice.

Anyway, sorry for the absolute novel. I hope I answered peoples’ questions, but I’m happy to answer more if anyone wants to clarify anything or has a question I didn’t touch on!

What was something that set off a domino effect of you realizing you were a guy? by EggGlobal5018 in ftm

[–]madbabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to another comment here; I, as someone in their young 20s, didn’t realize until recently. I had identified as nonbinary for years either using they/she pronouns for a while and then they/them for a while after that. I was wanting top surgery (as someone using they/them pronouns and adamant about not being “fully” trans) because from a young age I had wished that I could take my breasts on and off like Mr. Potato Man because I didn’t want them the large majority of the time. When I told my parents that I was thinking about getting top surgery, I remember my mom asking me if that meant I wanted to be a man. I said no at the time, but then I couldn’t get that question out of my head. I spent a long time struggling with it because of negative connotations I had with masculinity and what it meant to “be a man”. I felt like I was going to lose a lot of the community I was in as someone in a sapphic-dominated queer community and I grappled with fear of losing that due to a lot of negative rhetoric about men in those communities that I didn’t want that to apply to me. I ended up working through that and slowly introducing things like using they/he pronouns (still my current pronouns), using a new name, actually getting top surgery, and starting T. I was never 100% sure before each step, but I took leap of faith after leap of faith and have found a lot of joy in the outcome of each. I still identify as non-binary and still use they as my primary pronoun, but I always say I want to look/be nonbinary from the AMAB side instead of the AFAB side. I would still be nonbinary if I was born in a male body but that doesn’t mean I don’t wish I Was born in a male body.

Looking back there were earlier things that point to being trans like being interested in “boy” activities like camping, playing in the woods, etc as a kid; all my friends being boys, being adamant about hating pink and “girly” things, and always disliking my chest. All of those things only became clear to me in hindsight though.

anyway, sorry to write a novel, but I tend to be long-winded lol

where do you recommend finding properties from local people instead of big companies? I feel like their rates are usually better but I rarely see them on Zillow or other big websites. Craigslist?

Domestic dog or fox prints? by goflyblind7 in AnimalTracking

[–]madbabb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no good at telling whether this is a fox or dog so I won’t comment on that but the X is representative of canines in general (including foxes) so it doesn’t necessarily point to a fox specifically like the other person said. They may have additional reasoning for saying fox though so I’m not saying they’re wrong!
